I thought that’s where our troops were. Or is that the part in between both halves of the country?

Does anyone inhabit it?

Yes, the DMZ is a narrow area between the two Koreas. No, the United States no longer has units on the DMZ. They are further back in support of the ROK units. The ROK Army has responsibility for the DMZ now. There may still be a few US soldiers in the Joint Security Area (JSA) where talks are held between the two sides.
