O’Reilly Says ‘Completely Unfounded Claims’ Led to His Ousting
Washington Free Beacon ^

Posted on 04/20/2017 7:34:16 AM PDT by bryan999

Bill O'Reilly released a statement on Wednesday clarifying his departure from Fox News, saying that "completely unfounded claims" were the cause.

The departure came in the wake of multiple sexual harassment allegations against the cable news star, but his statement remained positive toward his former employer, Mediaite reported.

"Over the past 20 years at Fox News, I have been extremely proud to launch and lead one of the most successful news programs in history, which has consistently informed and entertained millions of Americans and significantly contributed to building Fox into the dominant news network in television," O'Reilly stated.

"It is tremendously disheartening that we part ways due to completely unfounded claims. But that is the unfortunate reality many of us in the public eye must live with today," he continued, alluding to the sexual harassment allegations.

"I will always look back on my time at Fox with great pride in the unprecedented success we achieved and with my deepest gratitude to all my dedicated viewers. I wish only the best for Fox News Channel," he concluded.

O'Reilly had worked for Fox News for over 20 years before he was released on Wednesday.

I’m hearing that it was Media Matters that got the advertisers to pull their support for The Factor which put the pressure on Fox to dump BOR.

For some reason, this whole story reminds me of an off-color version of an old song, as done by folk singer Oscar Brand, called "One-Eyed Reilly".

(Be fully forewarned that if you do go ahead and look up his version of that song on youtube and play it, it is an off-color version of that song.)

What could he possibly have said on tape hurtful words?

Perhaps he threaten to withhold job benefits without inappropriate services? We really don’t know, but in no case was it necessary to fire their #1 cable news star.

You don’t shoot yourself in the foot until you first take basic measures to resolve the situation.

In the case of abuse of power you simply remove the power if the man wont reframe himself.

In the case of ‘hurtful words’ you fire the little girls who can’t keep themselves from being hurt by mere words.

Professionals particularity in the news industry where verbal ‘harassment’ is expected the failure to have graduate kindergarten with the knowledge of the difference between words, and actual sticks, stones, is a disqualifying attribute.

I’m sorry but a reporter who can’t handle words their stock and trade without harming themselves is a threat to themselves and the industry.

I met the guy. He gives off a creepy vibe. He is nothing like his on air persona.

The Murdoch boys decided they wanted BOR gone. Fortunately for them he appears to be a serial sexual asshat and they used it to get rid of him. They are not getting rid of O’Reilly because of the sexual harrassment suits or it would have happened several years ago.

If I were he I would be relieved to go with a payoff such as his. Being anyone of even modest authority in the workplace these days is at best a pita and it gets worse from there.

Never thought I’d say so but at this point I’m glad to be retiring soon.

"Prediction: Fox News is moving left and will lose many subscribers, possibly 30% to 40%."

I've been saying that for years. No one on the left will admit to watching FOX news, they hate it and would love to see the building blown up no matter how far to the left it goes, no viewership pickup there. Conservatives will flee the network, dropping the numbers horribly on their way out the door. Moderates really won't switch simply because they have so many choices now of liberal news why change the channel from what you're use to?

FOX has a niche, it's one they've carved out and even though it's not as far right as it could be, it's still the only thing like it on any of the networks. If they are so stupid they can't see that conservatives are flocking for a place that will cover the stories every other network refuses to then they deserve to become irrelevant.

The injustice of this kind of celebrity sexual harassment accusation can be summed up with three facts:

1. Poor people rarely get accused - it’s all about the deep pockets.

2. With celebrities there is usually no actual crime committed. The consequences for celebrities are usually loss of job, endorsements, etc. and out of court financial settlement. If there is real stalking the stalker gets thrown in jail or at least a restraining order and you don’t see that in these celebrity cases.

3. The ‘trial’ for celebrities does not take place in a courtroom but rather in ‘the court of public opinion’ - what this means is that the media gets to tip the scales of injustice - which usually means republican politicians are found guilty and democrats skate.

I’m no fan of Bill O’Reilly and I think people wildly exaggerate his importance to Fox, and especially to the conservative movement. He’s not even close to being a conservative.

Having said that, I’m sorry this sexual harassment bs has to hang over everyone’s head - a lot of good people have been ruined by silly accusations - I know a handful of male high school teachers who have to teach girls - they have all gotten falsely accused of ‘staring’ or ‘leering’ at least once. Usually the complaint is quickly withdrawn - usually when the parents get the girl to admit she made it up. But other times it goes farther and it’s really sad that immature girls can hold that kind of power over an innocent man with no evidence at all.

Meanwhile someone like Clinton can get away with rape when there is plenty of evidence, just because the media likes him.

I think you need to come to terms with the fact that BOR is not a good guy. In the end the Murdoch’s who have put up with his antics for years finally used it to get rid of him when they wanted him gone.

I’m sorry but I can’t figure out what’s wrong with women these days. I was a young girl in the 70’s and my dad taught all three of his girls not to take any crap like that from a man.

I’m not violent. I have never been violent, but the first man that physically assaulted me when I was 17 years old was my bus driver. He ran his hand up my skirt and I punched him in the mouth. He was in his 40’s and an “old man” to me. He never did it again.

The next time, I was working for the State and a co-worker’s husband followed me up the flight of stairs to our office. He also put his hand up my skirt. He bounced on his butt down about 20 steps and landed in a pile at the bottom. I went straight to my managers office and told him. He banned the man from the office.

I had male co-workers say suggestive things to me when I was young. I told them to knock it off. They did. I was attractive but I wasn’t a floozy. Dad monitored the length of our skirts so it wasn’t that. To me, it’s just men being men. That doesn’t excuse their behavior but I would much rather deal with a “real man” than these fruity pansies we have now. It seems to me that women now don’t know how to deal with a real man.

Nobody lost their job. Nobody was sued and went to court. I just don’t get it.

Personally, I can’t stand the guy. If I’m channel surfing and he’s on I skip Fox News channel every time - I really never understood the appeal.

I don’t need to come to grips with anything - this sexual harassment thing is bogus - only the rich celebrities get accused for obvious reasons.

...but now I’m just repeating myself.

Tucker Carlson, for what reason I can’t figure out, is the supposedly replacement for O’Reilly. His entire show is arguing with 3 or 4 liberals about old news. His show to me is awful. Some might like it, but I don’t. He could be replaced by half a dozen others and you couldn’t tell the difference. Anyway, in a lame attempt to get “the Factor’ off and running if you have time to tune in this coming Monday you’ll get to see him interview American’s favorite drag queen, Bruce Jenner. This is the new “conservative” Fox News. Hell would freeze over before I watched 30 seconds of this disgusting creep Jenner. Fox is the new Inside Edition and Tucker Carlson is Fox’s Jerry Springer.
