“Pay’s pretty good. Five dollars a day...
Made any more I’d move away...”

I seem to recall an old bumper sticker:

“What can’t be grown,
must be mined.”

Not as good of a seller as “Earth First! (We’ll mine the rest of the planets later.)

My favorite “Ban mining. Let the bastards freeze in the dark.”

If I remember correctly, we sold a lot of coal to Japan and to Europe, esp. when the Soviets used to cut off natural gas supplies in the dead of winter to win some kind of concessions.

With Japan’s Fukiyama rector complex out of commission for a long, long time, they may revert back to coal-powered plants for their energy needs. Good, we can sell it to them.

Clean coal and clean coal-ash is becoming much more of a technological reality, which is good. And putting hardworking American miners back to work is great. West Virginia should soon be a Republican state and hopefully Manchin will switch parties and give the Republican Senate another vote majority.

Don't forget that most of SW Pennsylvania, where I live, is culturally as well as physically far more close to West Virginia than Philadelphia.

The only exceptions are Pittsburgh proper and some of the drug addled suburbs like Braddock and Monessen.
