Report: Ivanka Trump & Jared Kushner Behind Push to Remove Bannon (but they buried the hatchet)

Report: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner behind push to remove Steve Bannon from White House

The knives seem to be out for White House chief strategist Bannon after anonymous sources from the White House say the first daughter and her husband want him out.

President Trump, in a series of high-profile interviews, has publicly dissed his chief strategist by saying he's "a guy who works for me" and who didn't get "involved in my campaign until very late." This was right after Bannon was removed from the National Security Council's principals committee.

According to the New York Times, people close to the Trump family have said that Ivanka and Jared's push to remove Bannon is them "addressing what they view as an embarrassing string of failures that may damage her father personally, as well as the Trump family brand."

In the Times piece, authored by Peter Baker, Glenn Thrush and Maggie Haberman, Trump's view on how he runs the West Wing like a "family business" is detailed:

More openly than any president before him, Mr. Trump is running his West Wing like a family business, and as he has soured on Mr. Bannon, his combative chief strategist, he has turned to his daughter and son-in-law. Their ascendance has some conservative supporters fretting about the rising influence of the urbane young New Yorkers, as some moderates and liberals swallow concerns about nepotism in the hope that the couple will temper the temperamental president.

At the request of White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, Bannon and Kushner met and agreed to "bury the hatchet" over their differences recently, in a bid to stop infighting that had distracted from President Donald Trump's message.

Steve Bannon, the White House Chief Strategist and former executive chair of Breitbart News, has seemingly been on the outs with President Trump, with headlines calling him “doomed” after the president refused to publicly back him in a New York Post interview. One likely reason for Trump’s reticence: His daughter and advisor Ivanka has reportedly been criticizing Bannon in private conversations with him.

According to a New York Times article published on Saturday, Ivanka Trump has “spoken bluntly about Mr. Bannon’s shortcomings to the president. She was especially incensed by articles she believed were planted by Mr. Bannon’s allies suggesting he, not her father, honed the populist economic message that helped sweep the Midwest. She made that point in the strongest terms to her father, who agreed, according to a family friend.”

Tensions inside the White House have reportedly risen over media reports, believed to be planted by Bannon allies, that White House staffers believe Ivanka and Kushner to be insufficiently conservative. President Trump “thinks Steve was leaking against Jared and Ivanka,” a source told New York magazine, adding that it’s unclear if Bannon’s camp had indeed been the source of those leaks.

Has President Trump gotten the message that a whole lot of Deplorables are fed up with the Prince and Princess? I don’t know if they’re useful idiots or complicit. Either way, it sure does seem that those two are pushing an agenda, and it isn’t ours.

Steve Bannon is just teddibly, teddibly, too too much of the hoi polloi for the delicate Kushner family sensibilities.

I’d be really careful of buying into this.

I’m an unabashed supporter of Ivanka and Jared. Trump trusts them, and his opinion matters.

There are no instances that I know of where they prevailed upon him to do something wrong for the nation.

He remains committed to our causes.

I believe Ivanka has some leftist leanings. So far when the president has addressed those issues, he has come down on our side and not the Leftist side.

I thought Trump never put Bannon on the principals committee - that Bannon did that on his own and that’s why Trump pulled him off with the face-saving cover he was babysitting Flynn?

Oh B.S.

Most of us are adult enough to accept that the president’s policies are going to be implemented.

Look at global warming. He’s been backing out of government programs to support measures to reduce it.

Ivanka and Jared didn’t prevail here, and we have no reason to believe they will alter any of his other policies.

Folks have become head over heals fixated on the two of them, and it’s wasted angst and effort.

They helped get him elected. They are helping implement his policies as aids the president.

Great!

What people who actually are close to the Trump family would leak anything to the NYT? Only people who hate Trump, and very likely know nothing about what's going on, would do so. So probably made up/exaggerated/embroidered or just plain made up by the NYT.

The Forward is a really, REALLY strange Jewish commiepuke news outlet. I researched it recently.

Take a look at the staff bios.... ultra liberals, and I mean ultra. Why believe anything such a biased fake news site spews out?

While anecdotal, it’s been my observation (on Twitter) that a sizeable portion of Trump supporters are not comfortable with Jared and Ivanka being Senior Advisors. Trump’s choice, but people are not comfortable with a Liberal Dem like Kushner having Trump’s ear.

Just an observation.

You folks have nothing to point to that these two have forced the president to cave on.

You’ve been feeding of each other and have become obsessed with the topic.

When I ask one of you to tell me one thing they have forced the president to do against our wishes, I get nothing.

You tell me what they have done to move this nation to the left.

Thanks in advance.

Trump rescinded the LGBT guidelines for school restrooms.

Politico isn’t exactly being on the up and up there.

I don’t buy much of it either. There is ALWAYS some struggle in any organization to see one’s views advanced, but I don’t think this was special.

Last few times I spoke to Bannon he said “I’m not going anywhere.”

The fact that someone like you (ostensibly on Trump’s side) has been sucked into this whole palace intrigue story arc proves just how brilliant Trump is.

Just one for instance: notice how this whole debate involves members of Trump’s team — and only members of Trump’s team? No reason to ask any Dems for their opinion — we have now been led to only care about what’s happening in the palace.

Debates on major policy issues — foreign and domestic — can now take place with only members of Trump’s team on the stage. That not only robs the Dems of a soapbox; it also demonstrates, clearly, that Trump is aware of the whole range of options before him, on any issue — and that he has chosen the best course of action.

Face it — Trump’s smarter than you. He’s smarter than most of us. You don’t get what’s happening — that’s too bad. OTOH, most of Trump’s many opponents have even less of an idea what’s happening, let alone what to expect next — and that’s a good thing.
