This Marine MP still may face Marine discipline for allowing his friend to take his sidearm, and for grabbing the pistol out of the car over a nightclub fight in the first place.

Good news for this Marine.

You are correct. It is excellent news.
Although he is not a Marine. He is a Marine veteran. Huge difference.

Good news for a screwed up State. NJ is so liberal it is a wonder it still is part of the United States.

If Cristie wasn’t there.....! You really can’t carry, transport or whatever in the People’s Republic of New Jersey. The relief is coming from the power of a decent Governor, nothing else.

Why not a pardon? He’s still a convicted criminal as of this commutation.

It's ridiculous that you register your weapon in one state and it's illegal in another state.
There has to be reciprocity. It's in the Federal Constitution....not a states rights issue.

Hisashi is a Japanese name, but Pompey does not look Japanese, or even
haafu-kokujin (son of a black man married to a Japanese, or vice versa). I wonder what led his parents to name him Hisashi.
P.S. I'm glad the sentence was commuted; I'm sorry his Marine career cannot be returned to him.

It should be a full pardon, not just a commutation. This Marine has a felony conviction on his record now, which probably precludes him from even legally owning a gun...

“Good news for this Marine.”
Only partially. He still has a felony record. That means that he can not get any job in law enforcement, any federal or state level job anywhere, and a whole host of other jobs requiring a background check or simply out of the question for this young man.
I find it incomprehensible that Governor Christie did not give him a full pardon, much less an apology. Frankly, Chris Christie is scum. He only did this because he was under pressure not to jail the young man. So while it is good that he is not going to be serving time, the rest of his life is still pretty much a ruin because Chris Christie doesn’t have simple decency or guts. How is this guy supposed to earn a living, when probably 50% of the jobs that he is qualified for are automatically out of the question?

We need National Reciprocity passed in Congress, now!
And not the watered down version that the Senate is playing with. Their version says that out of state permits are not recognized by residents of their home state.
We need NATIONAL right to carry for ALL!
