A teddy bear on display Wednesday in Chicago is not soft or furry, cute or cuddly. It is metallic gray and has a gun barrel with a capacity for six bullets as its muzzle.
The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence launched the new public awareness campaign titled "Teddy Gun" and produced by local ad agency FCB Chicago to raise awareness of gun violence. It aims to highlight the lack of government oversight in gun manufacturing by pointing out that plush toys are subject to more federal safety standards and regulations than guns.
The Teddy Gun installation is on display Wednesday at St. James Cathedral at 65 E Huron St. before traveling to Washington, D.C.
"It's really trying to get people engaged and have a discussion and hopefully get involved in our movement to help save lives," said Colleen Daley, the council's executive director. "This is reminding people we need to have restrictions, we need to make sure we have commonsense regulations that can and will save lives."
The latest campaign was launched at a time when Chicago officials are trying to get a grip on the city's gun violence. Last year, more than 4,300 people were shot more than 760 of them fatally. (snip)
On the Teddy Gun website, the campaign features a video with eerie music. "It's not supposed to make you feel warm. It's supposed to make you say, 'Oh, wow. What's going on here?' " Daley said. She said the council is not an anti-gun group, nor is it working to advance policies that violate Second Amendment rights.

Utter B.S. by the anti-rights left.
Do you need a federal license to sell plush toys?
Do you need a federal license to manufacture plush toys?
Do you need federal permission to buy a plush toy overseas and bring it back to the United States?
All of those are required under federal law for guns.
Raise awareness? Have a discussion?
How about fighting crime and improving economic conditions?
Also, does that come in .22? I like to plink.
Teddy bears are not protected by the US Constitution. Weapons in the shape of Teddy Bears, are however.
What part of “...Shall Not Be Infringed “ don’t these people get?
For the millionth time, there is no such thing as “gun violence”.
A more accurate label would be “black people violence.”
You or I could go a hundred lifetimes before we engaged in a drive by shooting.
As always, the solution to black criminals shooting one another is to take away the guns of law abiding white people.
Do you have a constitutional right to own a teddy bear?
Raise awareness?!
Gun violence in Chicago in a well known international embarrassment.
And it will continue as long as there are liberal douchbags addressing it like this.
we need to make sure we have commonsense regulations that can and will save lives.”
More progressive rat bullsh$$.......the object is the problem not the mindlessness behind it.
Well, you certainly have a right to bear arms. The rest of the bear would seem to be attached thereby.
The Dems who rule Chicago are doing a bang-up job, aren’t they? (no pin intended).
(Make that “pun”)
Not so. I've been inclined to do so since I was 18 years of age, back in 1966. That inclination was encouraged and nurtured, and I got to be pretty good at it.
Who knows? If I'm up around Chicago again, around the offices of ad agency FCB Chicago, I just might just give it a go again.
I sense a fight bruin here.
......I'll let myself out.
Gonna be a bitch finding a holster for that thing.
If a gun manufacturer produced a DEFECTIVE product that posed a danger to its user (ie gun malfunctioning and exploding in your face or something) then he would be subject to the same penalties as someone who manufactured a teddy bear that was dangerously defective.
Cool. I want one of those! If the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence thinks this is going to undermine support for guns, they’re going to be surprised.
Exactly!
If the gun fires and kills who it was pointed at, then it worked PERFECTLY.
Guns that kill aren’t malfunctioning.
That's just the ones who went to the hospital.
Twinkle Toes needs to concentrate on making black men take responsibility for their off spring by being in the home and instilling morals. Nothing will improve without family units.
