In Iceland 100% of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted. Think about that.

In recent remarks to the Citizens Assembly in Ireland, Dr. Peter McParland, an ob-gyn at National Maternity Hospital, pointed to a sign of things to come.

“In Iceland,” the doctor said, “every single baby—100 percent of all those diagnosed with Down syndrome—are aborted.”

The horrors of the statement above can scarcely be grasped. Iceland has become the first nation to boast of eradicating Down syndrome from its country.

Dr. McParland expounded on this systematic annihilation stating, “There hasn’t been a baby with Down syndrome born in Iceland in the past five years.”

Iceland is not alone in its aspirations to create a “Down syndrome-free” world. The holocaust of Down syndrome babies is a global epidemic, taking the lives of human beings created in the image of God on the basis of a prenatal diagnosis indicating Down syndrome.

Denmark follows closely behind Iceland and predicts it will be a “Down-syndrome free” nation in the next 10 years.

Meanwhile, 90 percent of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome in the womb are aborted in Great Britain and the United States.

from the article Statically the vast majority of people with Down syndrome are happy, satisfied, and affectionate members of society—something that couldn’t be said of people born without the disability.

In Iceland, I don’t think they are actually called “babies” prior to birth. Too complicated, ya’kno.

There is going to be alot of downward pressure on the world population in the next 50-100 years, both natural and artificial. There is more of this to come.

I think the same thing happened with the various forms of dwarfism.

They speak as if Down Syndrome will cease to exist when it will actually become statistically more likely as women delay childbearing until later years.

My cousin, because she was in her thirties when she started having children, was advised to have an amniocentesis and other tests during her first pregnancy. They came back positive for Down Syndrome. She decided to have the baby. Today, he is a healthy, athletic 17-year-old and, you guessed it, does not have Down Syndrome.

Except among the Islamists. They will win the population war.

I guess they have no doctors in Iceland.
From the Hippocratic Oath:
“Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion.
... Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. Above all, I must not play at God.”

In a similar, but tragically different story, my cousin’s wife got the same news: “Your baby tested positive for Down’s.” She wanted an abortion, he didn’t, but she did it anyway. Baby aborted and tested, but no Down’s.

Now divorced, my cousin has custody of his other two children and his ex-wife is nuts - literally.

Amniocentesis will determine whether or not a child has Down syndrome and is considered the "gold standard" of testing, Carver said. That test is typically about 99 percent accurate.

I would hate to be in the 1% that is misdiagnosed...

Ancient Greece where the baby had to pass the examination of the elders to either be allowed to live or be killed.

I wonder what the rate of false positives is for those tests.

I have a granddaughter who is a dwarf. She is beautiful, intelligent, and full of life. She is a wonderful combination of efection and mischief, always pulling pranks on me and then wanting to snuggle after the silliness is over. To think that some people would have ended her life as if they were throwing out a defective part on a manufacturing line is terrifying.

As much as I dislike George Will's slippery neocon politics, he did right by his son Jon.

Same thing happened to a cousin of mine - told her baby would have Downs & “pressured” to abort. She got a 2nd opinion from an OB who wasn’t on the abort bandwagon & was told the baby was fine. Her child is healthy, very bright and talented ... a blessing in her mother’s life (as well as the rest of the family, too)

Iceland has become the first nation to boast of eradicating Down syndrome from its country.

You may have eliminated those afflicted, you have not eliminated the genetic marker for it.

false positives...

Not just false positives. Throughout history, a lot of the world's innovators have been somewhat (or totally) odd. It can lead to innovation which flows from a unique world view. Then there's the issue of the gene pool. Is it really a great idea for abortions to be based on the fear that a child might have outlier characteristics?

Then there's the issue of acceptance of those who don't fit in to society's norms. Does anybody seriously think that autism and the potential for a dread disease won't be used as reasons to abort?

It's a philosophical issue. Humans are playing God. God usually strikes back when lines are crossed.

My stepson and wife got the same diagnoses from their Ob-Gyn. Their little girl is now almost three and is healthy, active and smart. No sign of the supposed DS.

Same thing for me and my wife. It took us about 10 seconds to discuss and decline having the test at all since there was a small chance the test could harm the baby and the results wouldn't have made any difference about our having the baby.
