The North Korean dictatorship is of one man (little fat Kim) and all of the hierarchy is in mortal fear of death at his whim or fear of the day. Take the little bastard out and North Korea will descend into chaos as the power structure will collapse. A new military power structure will then take over. They will be much more amenable as they do not want to die in a new power struggle or an american tactical nuke.

It is that simple.

Of course the Russians will think we’re after Vladivostok, as well.

The greatest ever Republican president said when his supporters clamoured for war against Britain during the Civil War, “one war at a time”.

We are currently in five wars at the moment, I wonder what Lincoln would think of adding North Korea.

The general consensus seems to be that - in contrast to the other conflicts in which the U.S. is currently involved - it would take only approx. 30 minutes to decapitate the N. Korean regime, and that - since there would be no fanatic "die-hards" - the mopping-up operations would be over within days.

S. Korea would then be in charge of reconstructing the country and assimilating it.

In that 30 minutes Seoul would be pounded into rubble by artillery and rockets.

Then SK would be a great place to showcase our anti-artillery and anti-missile defense systems.

We have laser systems now that can literally vaporize artillery shells in mid-flight, and can target hundreds of them at a pop. The norks may get off one salvo at most, right before all hell rains down upon them.

10,000 artillery shells within seconds? No, we can’t deal with that.

Take the fat little turd out by giving him a stroke. I’m sure DARPA has some little micro drone with an ultrasound drill that would do the job. He’ll become susceptible to a coup, and the replacements will be susceptible to reason.

A lot of people were sure that the American Civil War would only last a couple of weeks.

A lot of people were sure that the American Civil War would only last a couple of weeks.

Your point?

A lot of people have been wrong about a lot of things since the beginning of history.

I'm all in favor of evaluating legitimate doubts - and then, if the evidence and arguments pointing towards one particular course of action outweigh all others, acting decisively.

Your attitude would lead only to paralysis.

South Korean leaders looked at the German example of integration costs and blanched:

the Korean estimates were that integration of Korean unification would cost ***500% more*** than for Germany.

Jong Un is a mean nut, and yes, common Korean citizens yearn .for unification but I’m not sure everyone in the SK leadership does.

The Germans had to integrate a population at a 1950s level of technological existence. The South Koreans will have to manage and integrate one at a near medieval level of technological existence. Example, the average North Korean recruit is at a physical development level as a South Korean 12 year old. Think of the mental impairment this poor North Korean must have due to malnutrition & low protein consumption during his early developmental years.
