Senator Eric Brakey is a resident of Auburn, with five generations of family roots in the town of New Gloucester. He was elected to the Maine State Senate in 2014 at the age of 26, making him the youngest State Senator in the state and in the nation. Senator Brakey received a majority of votes in all five municipalities, making him the only Republican challenger to win a majority in Auburn since Olympia Snowes 1976 State Senate race.
Senator Brakey is a leader in the state house and serves as the Senate Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee, where he has been an outspoken advocate for welfare reform. He sponsored successful legislation to ban the purchases of alcohol, cigarettes, lottery tickets, adult entertainment and other inappropriate purchases with welfare dollars.
In 2015, Senator Brakey also lead the successful effort to pass Constitutional Carry, which allows law-abiding citizens to carry a concealed handgun in the State of Maine without a permit. Brakeys bill garnered much media attention across the state, and ended up passing the House and the Senate with bi-partisan majorities. It was signed into law by Governor LePage on July 8, 2015 and went into effect across the state on October 15, 2015.
Outside the legislature, Eric works professionally as a Financial Records Manager for Brakey Energy, a family-run business that consults with industrial clients to lower energy costs and increase energy efficiency. He holds a college degree in Theatre Performance and has spent several years working as a professional actor. Eric Brakey served as the Maine State Director for the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign in 2012 and the Maine State Chairman for the Rand Paul Presidential Campaign in 2016.
Eric comes from the Ron Paul wing of the party and has become a poltical force in the legislator. He won a mostly liberal distrct in a close election by knocking on lots of doors and being visible in the communities.
He is well connected with the Ron Paul/Rand Paul national network and should have no problem raising money.
Vita CoCo commercial[edit]
In August 2013, Brakey gained international attention as a Maine Senate Candidate for a commercial he acted in for Vita CoCo Coconut Water several years previously. The commercial featured men dancing in Brazilian bathing suits. The story was featured on several national and international media sources, including Inside Edition and The Huffington Post.
Attention to this commercial began when Mike Hein (a former employee of the Maine Christian Civic League) sent video of the commercial to major news outlets in Maine, as well as to Eric Brakey’s pastors at East Auburn Baptist Church. In his message, Hein describes Brakey as “dancing around in his underwear in his bedroom, as though he were demon-possessed.” Brakey responded, “That’s my background, and I’m still doing a lot of acting. I’m an actor, and when I was working professionally in New York City this was a real fun, wonderful opportunity doing a commercial for a national brand.”
At the time of the controversy, Eric was working as an actor with the Lewiston/Auburn Community Little Theatre in an upcoming production of Monty Python’s Spamalot.[20] “If anyone is scared away by the comedy in the Vita Coco ad, they wont want to see Spamalot because its much more of a comedic piece that doesnt shy away from offending, he said.[21] “If Ronald Reagan could get away with ‘Bedtime for Bonzo’ and then become president of the United States, I think voters here are going to be happy seeing some of my dance moves,” Brakey said.
Matthew Gagnon, a political commentator at the Bangor Daily News, concluded that the incident was a major boost to Brakey’s State Senate Campaign. “As for Brakey, it is nice to see he is taking it in stride. Rather than feel embarrassed about something he shouldnt feel embarrassed about, he is laughing all the way to the ballot box. He has had more free publicity from this incident than he could have ever bought in a race like this, and he has had an opportunity to show his personality and good nature to the voters. He very easily could have gotten angry and bitter that he was forced to deal with this, but he didnt.”
I will spare folks here the actual commercial, but it just shows that Eric is not your fathers politican which is what we need in the senate.
Angus King is getting tweeted hard from the left. His Twitter account may need some heavy Freeping...

A Paulbot State Rep is not gonna win, more likely he’d get slaughtered.
Ideally LePage runs, if not, then we gotta find someone else.
Ping to #5.
But, nope -- not a peep out of them.
At least Paultard Justin Amash has stuck by his principles and remains one of the leading NeverTrumpers even after Trump became President, but his fanclub (which consists of other Paultards and some misguided Tea Party people who think he's Mr. Constitutional Conservative because he says he is) has gone underground as well.
Normal conservatives should infiltrate the "RON PAUL RLOVELUTION" meetups and find out what his cultists are up to lately.
He’s a State Senator, so that’s a bit more prominent. I’m sticking with LePage, though.
All the dope smoke at those meetings and you'd come out stoned.
Maine FReepers, got info on him...I wonder if he’s popular in Augusta. Will he be better than Susan Collins? Oh wait, Angus King is better...not by much...
