'One of the more incredible statements I've ever heard': John McCain rips Tillerson's shift on Syria

Republican Sen. John McCain tore into Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday morning, telling CNN that Tillerson's recent comments about the US's policy in Syria represented "another disgraceful chapter in American history."

Tillerson told reporters while he was in Turkey last week that the "longer-term status of President [Bashar] Assad will be decided by the Syrian people."

The remark signaled a shift in the US's official position toward the Syrian strongman. Though they were criticized for failing to act against Assad's atrocities, President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State John Kerry had long called for Assad to step down in a monitored transition of power.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley took an even stronger position than Tillerson, telling reporters that the administration's "priority is no longer to sit and focus on getting Assad out."

Imhate to be mean, but at 80 and after years in captivity, shouldn’t McCain be approaching room temperature?

With a small majority, the GOP has to put up with McCain. His position shows us the power of crazy.

McCain runs the IRS-Conservative Attack group
and started ISIS.

Who cares what he says ... except those in
Arizona who still support slavery and rape.

This shift in policy will certainly be welcomed by the remnant of the Christian Community of Syria.

Our liberals think that perfection in policy outweighs the actual outcome. For us to condemn all the ME strongmen based on western political values, is naïve to say the least. Everytime we have assisted in deposing a strong ME leader, the end result is Christian genocide.

When the only available alternative is of the Muslim Brotherhood ilk, it is tragic to overthrow a more secular ME leader. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thank goodness for Tillerson.
Here’s hoping he and Trump will not hesitate to give McCain the smackdown he deserves.

We are not going to be involved with removing Assad anymore. Finally. It was insane to arm terrorists and ultimately ISIS to remove Assad.

We have tried the lets replace this Muslim dictator to
many times. Iraq should have taught us a lesson about
imposing a democracy in Muslim countries. We did not learn.

His mother is like a million years old. McTurd will be like Strom Thurmond, and my fellow Arizonians made a huge mistake.

I voted for the socialist Dem over him, because at least she doesn’t pretend to be a “conservative.”

John McCain thinks he's President of the United States ... rather than recipient of ‘intelligence scuttlebutt’ on his fellow Americans.

Or maybe McCain's just a 'darling' of the liberal elite press because he plays on their team? They share the same dirt on political opponents, right? Stealing our private conversations is still theft - but YOU know that McCain, don't you? How charming that the "17" gave YOU a political advantage in exchange for your funding and support. Is that how it went down?

No honor among thieves McCain?

Drain the Swamp.
