McConnell ‘Very Confident’ That Congress Can Avoid a Government Shutdown

The government will run out of money on April 28 unless Congress passes a bill to keep the funds flowing through the end of the fiscal year.

Senate Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said he’s “very confident” there will be no government shutdown on April 29, but that means Republicans will not press for some of their own — and President Trump’s — priorities, including money for a border wall.

“The two appropriations committees are working on the bills on a bipartisan basis,” McConnell told “Fox News Sunday.” “I’m confident Senate Democrats are not going to want to shut down the government. They used to use that against us all the time. And I think it worked pretty effectively for them. And I can’t imagine they would want to acquire the government shutdown label.” …

What happened to regular order?

Where is the annual budget? Are we still pursuing continuing resolutions?

You moron. They're going to blame you regardless of who is in power.

He knows that. What he’s being stupid about is hoping that there are some that still can’t see through the Kabuki theater.

Exactly. McConnell and his cronies will spend the money and send the bill to us, our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren, our great-great-grandchildren......

Oh dear this almost a sure sign my prediction of a shutdown is going to come true. If that happens and the writers go on strike for a just 1 week I’m applying for my psychics license.

It is very sad that both parties appear to have folks who are really not very good at anything save for corruption.

McConnell is a good example. He is a talentless piece of mush who could just as easily have been a Democrat.

One has to search carefully to find folks that garner respect in either party.

Most appear to be smarmy loser lawyers who have not ever had a real job in their sorry lives.

And no, being a congresscritter is NOT a real job.

This is not good for the country.

“The two appropriations committees are working on the bills on a bipartisan basis,” McConnell told “Fox News Sunday.”

Translation: We have ceded most if not all budgetary power back to our masters in the Demonrat Party and are just waiting to see how much they are going to allow us to Spend and on What. It is up to Chuck Schumer now.

Trump doesn’t not want a shutdown under his watch.

If you think he was mad about Ryan/Trump-care see what a shutdown does/would do.

--while I think a near permanent shutdown of most of it would be a good thing, with the Republidums in complete control (?) why is a shutdown even a possibility?

--does anyone think if we had a Democrap congress and president it would happen?

The administration should put down some markers ahead of time. I'd suggest a letter circulated through all departments. The lead would be something like, "One of the most contemptible episodes in the recent annals of American government was ....," and then go on to detail the thuggery that was inflicted on the public by the Obama Administration in the last shutdown.

The letter would then go on to say, "THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. We of course wish to avoid a shutdown and will work with all responsible Members of Congress to enact a budget in an orderly way. But should a shutdown nonetheless arise -- e.g., should the budget be filibustered -- our goal will be to minimize disruption to the general public." Follow this with a list of directives, contrasting the proper response with the Obama response.

End with, "Clearly during the last shutdown, systematic efforts were made to maximize disruption to the public as a means of political thuggery and extortion. This is reprehensible and should be criminal. I am directing agency heads to insert a letter of reprimand into the personnel file of every federal employee who participated in such actions. Employees may attach a letter of explanation and apology, which should include a detailed account of who ordered the improper action. But 'I was just following orders' is not an excuse. I am further directing an interagency team to develop a list of sanctions for the future. These will include but not be limited to termination of employment, and may include criminal sanctions. We will ask Congress to enact these as permanent law, so that no future administration will ever be able to engage in the extortionate conduct of the Obama administration in such a situation."

Wordsmith as you like, but that should be the gist. Make it sting, and make it clear to federal employees that it will be a firing offense to go out and padlock a jungle gym in an open playground, or to try to shut down Mount Vernon, or to tell Japanese tourists, waiting for the buses to leave Yellowstone, that they can't take pictures of Old Faithful, all because a would-be dictator in the White House wants to practice extortion.

A REAL GOV’T SHUTDOWN.

Is that what is really wanted?

The military stays home. The FAA doesn’t route air traffic. Social Security checks don’t go out. Veterans benefits shut off. The Secret Service allows anyone into the White House who wants in.

None of this is going to happen so you’re not going to get your REAL GOV’T SHUTDOWN.

What you’re going to get is a CR that fully funds Obamacare, including planned parenthood and funding for healthcare for illegals. Most conservatives in Congress will vote for it, too.
