The New York Times Upshot reports that nearly one in four white, working class voters who supported President Obama's reelection in 2012 abandoned the Democratic party in the 2016 presidential election, selecting either Donald Trump or a third-party candidate. It is this shift, not a major change in expected turnout, that propelled Mr. Trump to victory in the 2016 presidential election.
The Upshot reached this conclusion by reviewing actual voter files, comparing those to The Upshot's pre-election turnout projections in Florida, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The turnout patterns in these three states are representative of broader trends throughout the nation, according to the analysis.
...in others words, people really don’t like Hilda
Which also put the lie to the contention that Republicans can’t win without kowtowing to the “minority” vote.
Yep, they sure have an inflated view of self importance.
It was all those newly racist White Obama voters who helped Trump.
What about the trends representative of illegal immigrant turnout? What’s the analysis of those trends?
White Lives Matter
“...in others words, people really dont like Hilda”
...also these voter would never vote for Jeb or Mitt.
Republicans nationwide should make it clear at every opportunity that the Rats have contempt for *everyone*,regardless of color, who gets their hands dirty doing a day's work.
I would summarize the results this way: Trump overperformed generic Republican, Hillary underperformed generic Democrat.
Unfortunately a lot of those in positions of power seem to be in denial of those facts. Then there are those who are uninterested in why. Hillary was a terrible candidate, and at least some senior Dems seem to be willing to ask how they can do better. Too many on the Republican side seem to be oblivious that Trump did better than generic Republican, and what the implications of that are. I am dubious that any other candidate in the primaries could have done better than Donald Trump, mostly because he had a brand independent of that of the Republican party.
Vote fraud - electronic - put zero back in ‘12, the same dems who gave us the Senate in ‘14 voted for Trump in Nov, just an even bigger percentage. Oh, and O’Keefe ran down the electronic vote fraudsters such that they didn’t dare load their count code cheats in the swing states.
1 in 4 thats 25% it seems like a lot, until you actually think about what therere saying. Out of white working class voters that previously voted for Obama 1 of 4 voted for someone other than a democrat in 2016. How many people are they really talking about? Considering that roughly 100% of blacks voted for Obama, thats 13% of the population. All of the elitist liberals voted for Obama, thats what another 18-25% of the population. That puts Obama at over 40% with no white working class voters supporting him. So again how many people are they really talking about?
And white voters matter. That was a big mistake to take them for granted.
The Magic Negro sucked lemons and donkey balls ...
Correct. Many counties swung (swang? swinged? did swing?) 20 percentage points or more between 2012 and 2016.
These are precinct level changes Decision desk is working on.

Lots of FReepers seem to be convinced it was conservatives who got Trump elected
What about an analysis of the voting records of those on welfare or those who do not pay income tax?
But I also understand that Trump got a reasonable good percentage of the black vote aged 25-30 (I am not sure of the age range) but it was higher than expected.
