Yes - agree. Part of this smoking gun will be that the Clinton campaign received this intelligence routinely. This is why Obama “retroactively” gave the permission for the sharing of the documents - the documents had long earlier been shared, including with the Clinton campaign and let’s hope there will be definitive evidence of this.

Consider that this may go back well before Obama. Suppose it goes back to the period immediately after 9/11 when the Patriot Act was born and Bush and his neocons were in charge.
Suppose that as surveillance technology evolved and massive amounts of money was invested in expanding it under the heading of WOT, suppose that a lot of information was gathered (metadata and other) under the theory that the ends (avoiding another terror attack) justified the means (not getting legal warrants).
Suppose this were true. Can you see that it would be problematic for BOTH parties if this were to become publicly known?
I’m not saying in any way that Obama is not guilty, but it is possible, even plausible, that he continued to do things that others started, and that he used them to further his agenda.

A fact that Obama was apprised via a PDB does not absolve any leakers. Those are independent issues. One, Obama knowing, that is just political, because there is no law against the president lying to the public. Two, Leaking classified information is a crime, and the fact that one person may be the first leaker doesn't absolve later leakers of the same information.

It is possible that they already spied on Trump before he announced his candidacy, and kept it up throughout.

I would not rule this out at all - explains the establishment GOP extreme (beyond rational) anti-Trump animosity including the Bushes.
