Houston Police sergeant kills himself inside HPD station

The man was found around 8:35 a.m. inside of a stairwell on the fourth floor at the Westside Patrol Station, where he worked, at 3203 South Dairy Ashford, Acevedo said. The fourth floor is not currently in use by the department, so no one heard the gunshot. Officers working in the Westside Patrol Station decided to search the facility after they discovered at 7 a.m. the sergeant had not come to work.

Hmm, there has to be more to this story. Like, sure, when you don't show up for work your coworkers search the unused stairwell for you. Did they not call his cell, check his house, locate his car, check street surveillance, etc.? Maybe they did and are withholding that info.

Getting rid of Acevedo is second only to getting rid of McAuliffe.

Remember that Superbowl pedo/trafficker sting?

Some other stories from the Houston media but they don’t give any other details either
It’s almost strange that someone wouldn’t have heard a gunshot.

A Silencer may have been used, and at a particular time of day where most the officers would be meeting in another part of the building. Sad ending to what probably started as a lifelong ambition.

The truth is going to come out. Either he had an illness or he did something illegal.

Agree. Why should he shoot himself in a stairwell? Not that anyone committing suicide is thinking logically, but this just seems like an odd location.

Well since the article says they decided to search the building I’m guessing that something indicated he had come to work but not appeared, i.e., maybe someone did know his car was there, etc.

IF there is nothing suspicious going on it will likely be a case of severe depression. Even if never diagnosed, I would say that anyone ready to off themselves is by definition “depressed”.... Most people have no conception of how bleak and hopeless severe depression is. This I can say from personal experience.

Still doesn’t make sense. Why did he shoot the victim instead of the perp?

Maybe. Maybe just depression. I know ex-cop author Joseph Wambaugh called suicide "the policeman's disease". Pretty common.

“but this just seems like an odd location.”

What would you consider a routine location to shoot yourself?

I found out that his daughter is one of my mom’s students. My mom found out about this story from her principal before the man’s daughter even knew it had happened.
