Governing means supporting AHCA
The Hill.com ^ | 3-29-17 | Rep. Ken Buck

Posted on 03/30/2017 2:26:19 PM PDT by bigbob

I supported the American Health Care Act last Friday because it was the right vote. I didn’t begin as a big fan, but I ended up satisfied that America needed this bill to start a process to repair our healthcare system.

Yes, I’m a conservative. I pal around with those liberty-loving Freedom Caucus guys. I get better grades on conservative scorecards than I ever received in college. And frankly, if you asked the Speaker, I think he’d tell you I’m a bit of a right-wing rabble-rouser.

I supported the AHCA, and will continue to support it, because a yes vote is the principled, conservative position.

Some members of the FC are starting to wise up....

In the end - it will be evident that the HFC was not the enemy here. Ryan knows this. So does Trump.

There’s a reason why Ryan pulled TrumpCare from a vote twice last week. Not because conservatives would not vote for it.

But because many RINO’s would vote “Nay” as well.

Well, maybe it WAS an improvement. But, how come there was such an all-fired hurry to jam it through without letting us little people know what was in it? That’s not a way to build support among the base.

It felt like it was written in secret and pulled out of a drawer. Yeah, Trump got involved and there was some back and forth among various GOP factions, but how could there be any public support?

And, I still don’t know if Congress critters and staff would have been subject to it just like the rest of us. That’s one of my non-negotiables for any health plan. I won’t support any special Nomenklatura plan, even if the GOP introduces it and calls it conservative.

Gosh, you promise that parts 2 and 3 in the future is when you’ll REALLY gut Obamacare? That’s really brave of you, right before midterms and all. /s

These guys never quit. They are lie a bad wife that says you can have sex next week. Next week never comes.

Pubbies do know that if they replace Obamacare, they own, not only their replacement, but all of Obamacare’s legacy, right?

Repeal. Don’t replace.

I can respect an honest difference of opinions. My biggest gripe with the AHCA was that the political cost of passing it would have made Phase 3 impossible. They really should have made Phase 1 more effective in reducing premiums immediately. The bill was doomed once they projected annual 20% increases in premiums BEFORE 2020.

What Republicans think is that if they allow Obamacare to continue to fail, Democrats will step up and help fix it, gaining political advantage in the process. What Republicans FEAR is that failure to act will result in loss of the majority in the Senate and maybe even the House in 2018. They know they have about a year to resolve this or they will be running on Obamacare (yet again) in front of a very hostile electorate.

I posted many times in 2012 that all conservatives needed to rally around Romney because it was our last chance to do a complete repeal of Obamacare. I knew then that after four more years Obamacare would be so deeply embedded in the economy and government and the health care industry would be so changed, that we would have to do some kind of reform/replace even if we won in 2016. But, there were still a lot of conservatives who refused to believe it and we got four more years of Obamaism.

Ken Buck is a good conservative and I hope he doesn't get the full FR treatment for saying this.

Not hard to connect the dots on this one. Open borders Koch Bros. offered millions to anyone opposed to ryancare. Yet I see them offer no support on that level for other obamacare repeal efforts.

Make no mistake: the kamikaze caucus is serving their donors like every other swamper in the beltway. The intent is to damage POTUS and halt his ENTIRE agenda. Conservatives need to wise up, ASAP, or we will get nothing.

So what? Let them own it. It's not as though the GOP deserves sympathy.

Dear Rep. Buck:

I think you are misguided, and wrong on this issue.

That does not mean I think you are a socialist, or a Hillary supporter, or a traitor to America.

It just means we disagree on one issue.

Cordially,

Eric Pode

I was in the same position with Romney, yet the purists wouldn’t hear of it.

You have a good congressman, he understands the proper balance of ideology vs. pragmatism. I wouldn’t change one word in what he wrote. It will resonate across a broad range of people, and I believe, with others in the FC who are now seeing the handwriting on the wall as all 435 seats in the House are up for grabs in just 18 months.

So now “governing” is the nationalizing of any part of the private sector? Maybe. But it’s horrible governing at the very least. Get out of my life is good governing.

Complete nonsense...HFC members helped draft AHCA and vote it out of committee.

HFC members voted aye on previous bills that contained the same provisions that HFC now state are deal killers.

Bottom line: the House Freedom caucus are petty obstructionist puppets who never intended to reach a consensus.

to start a process to repair our healthcare system.

So why didn't they send bills to Obama to "repair" Obamacare?
