GOP Leaders May Drop Wall Funding to Win Democratic Approval for Other Priorities
Breitbart ^ | March 28, 2017

Amid Democratic opposition, Republican leaders are retreating from President Donald Trump’s very popular campaign promise to build a border fence to block illegal immigration, drug smugglers, and criminals.

A top GOP leader, Sen. Roy Blunt, told reporters on Tuesday that GOP leaders do not want to include Trump’s spending for the border wall in the spring budget, which is due by April 28. “All of the committees, the leaderships of the House and Senate, are working together to try to finalize the rest of the FY17 [budget spending] bill,” he added. “My guess is that comes together better without the [border] supplemental,” he told The Hill.

Top Democrats are hoping to wreck Trump’s presidency by blocking any funding for his key campaign promise. “The wall is a poison-pill rider,” Schumer said in an interview with Politico. “They’ll do it at their peril.”

The outside money they get for doing what the CofC wants is more momentous to them than the prospects of re-election. So long as they hew to the globalist line their futures are bright with income way beyond what they make as representatives of the people in Congress. If they lose their elections they go straight to various sinecures we symbolize with the term “lobbyist” and have a lifetime income from that. If they buck the system they find they are limited to what they can make as congressmen and at their next elections they will have extremely well funded and promoted challengers in their primaries and they will not be able to get much exposure with the dollars they have.

The Republicans are not interested in devastating the Dems. They would rather devastate Mr. Trump.

the Uniparty smells blood over the health care defeat.

No wall/open borders is something they all agree on.

Trump needs to get out ahead of them or they will roll him on the wall/borders via a gov’t shutdown or the debt ceiling.

In my view the wall/borders is the hill Trump Presidency should be prepared to die on. Border enforcement has been a proper function of gov’t since year minus 1. If they can’t even do that, Trump should shut all of it down until they do.

A gov’t shutdown has leverage if the public supports you. But the debt ceiling is the hammer because financial markets will get really spooked if debt refunding depends on payment prioritization.

The calendar is, gov’t funding lasts thru Apr 29, and the debt ceiling is in July. The exact date will vary because, if the gov’t is shut down, there is less spending and the debt ceiling is delayed.

“This is a disaster. They have both halves of Congress and the Presidency and are essentially surrendering to Democrat’s feelings so soon?”

The difference between Republicans and Democrats is this, Republicans always look for reasons why something can’t be done, Democrats always look for ways to ram through what they want done.

One sees insurmountable obstacles everywhere, the other sees all the ways to get around them.

The only other possibility is that Republicans don’t really want what they claim to want to get done.

Funny, I thought we won the election and both houses. Just flip em the finger and go nuclear. They deserve it after their behavior since the election.

The Republican party is utterly useless.

Trump needs to hit the campaign trail and rail against the “do nothing Republican congress”. Work to get a lot of these guys Cantorized.

I think trump will have to veto some of their bills to put fear into them.

>The wall is probably the most important promise to keep. Without it, none of the other promises will matter.

Since the money to build the wall was already authorized by congress but wasted on unrelated stuff Trump can pretty easily shift money around to fund it. It’s going to be built one way or another.

Trump is not going to let the do-nothing Congress stop him on getting his wall built. I’d bet money on that. This is just a good reminder that the cheap labor wing of the GOP will not fight for us, when it comes to protecting the country and enforcing the laws. If this can’t pass as a ride-on to an extremely important bill, it will be even less likely to pass independently. Blunt knows that, but doesn’t care.

Obama just takes money to give to our enemies. I say president Trump should just take the money to build the wall. Take it from the money we waste on the palestinians and other stupid spending. I'm sure the president can find the money somewhere.

If the Dems want to close the Government, let them. We save money to use on the wall that way.

If Trump signs a budget without wall money - he is a failure. He may as well step down at that point.

No wall money. No budget. Send it back. Not complicated.

This is probably the best take on the subject. Plus, Trump will fund the wall with what he has on hand and can fund w/o Congress for now.
