The House Freedom Caucus, composed mostly of more right-wing members of the Republican party, had reportedly made a pact to band together in the recent fight over health care.
Based on interviews with numerous insiders, Politico described the pact as requiring that "No member would commit his vote before consulting with the entire group not even if [President] Trump himself called to ask for an on-the-spot commitment."
The site goes on to reveal that the plan, conceived by Ohio Representative Jim Jordan and agreed to by 28 of around 36 Freedom Caucus lawmakers, was put in place "to bind them together in negotiations and ensure the White House or House leaders could not peel them off one by one."
Despite the efforts of President Trump and other Republicans to make concessions toward the group which was pushing for a repeal of many Obamacare features, the GOP ultimately failed in its attempt, causing the bill to collapse.

An unnamed official said to CNN, "It didn't matter what policy we made because they (the Freedom Caucus) didn't want a deal."
Texas Representative Ted Poe echoed a similar sentiment when he announced his defection from the Freedom Caucus on Sunday, saying, "The goalposts kept getting moved. And no matter what, at the end of the day, 'no' was the answer."
Trump has since criticized the group, tweeting over the weekend, "Democrats are smiling in D.C. that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club For Growth and Heritage, have saved Planned Parenthood & Ocare!"

The Ryancare Route Winning by Losing?

Did the Freedom Caucus just pull the Republican Party back off the ledge, before it jumped to its death? A case can be made for that.
By Patrick J. Buchanan
The way some freepers are carrying on about the Freedom Caucus, I guess they would rather that we had left Eric Cantor in office so that they could have passed Rubios amnesty in the summer of 2014 to get the issue off the table as planned to clear the way for Yeb! and there would have been no President Trump.
If there was a three step process, they should have had the bills drafted for all three steps and passed them at the same time.
We have been here before and the “give us what we want now, and we will get something for you in the future” approach has been a disaster.
How many short term spending increases with future savings “in the out years” have ever produced anything but more red ink.
The Democrats were going demagogue ObamaCare repeal to death no matter what happens. The only solution to repeal ObamaCare is to let prices explode and hang it on the Democrats to force a repeal.
I agree. The three step was all rope-a-dope as far as I'm concerned. It kicked the rock down the road until after the next election. And maybe the next election after that.
Ryan has always been one of those guys who wanted to fix Obamacare rather than repeal it.
Oooooo—A secret pact.
Oh, no! It’s a conspiracy! /sarc
This is how folks band together to try to get accomplished what they couldn’t have accomplished by themselves. I, for one, am thankful they had the courage to stop the idiotic Ryancare from going forward, because Ryancare kept all the worst aspects of Obamacare in place. Just repeal Obamacare already!
A conspiracy by right wingers.
More probably, Ryan wanted to the Czar who re wrote ObamaCare to favor his lobbyist buddies and big donors.
Jordan should be Speaker.
Complicating matters is the likewise unresolved question concerning the extent of Trumps knowledge of the feds constitutionally limited powers (1.8.3), the states never expressly constitutionally delegating to Congress the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for INTRAstate healthcare purposes.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added]." -Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
In other words, can Pres. Trump work with corrupt Congress to work within Congresss limited Commerce Clause powers (1.8.3), taking unconstitutional regulations out of the federal books to make healthcare more affordable, effectively letting the states run their own healthcare programs?
Or, does Trump need to work with the states and Congress to ratify a Trumpcare amendment to the Constitution for new powers to support Trumpcare?
Corrections, insights welcome.
Drain the swamp! Drain the swamp!
Remember in November 18 !
Since Trump entered the 16 presidential race too late for patriots to make sure that there were state sovereignty-respecting candidates on the primary ballots, patriots need make sure that such candidates are on the 18 primary ballots so that they can be elected to support Trump in draining the unconstitutionally big federal government swamp.
Such a Congress will also be able to finish draining the swamp with respect to getting the remaining state sovereignty-ignoring, activist Supreme Court justices off of the bench.
Noting that the primaries start in Iowa and New Hampshire in February 18, patriots need to challenge candidates for federal office in the following way.
While I Googled the primary information above concerning Iowa and New Hampshire, FReeper iowamark brought to my attention that the February primaries for these states apply only to presidential election years. And after doing some more scratching, since primary dates for most states for 2018 elections probably havent been uploaded at this time (March 14, 2017), FReepers will need to find out primary dates from sources and / or websites in their own states.
Patriots need to qualify candidates by asking them why the Founding States made the Constitutions Section 8 of Article I; to limit (cripple) the federal governments powers.
Patriots also need to find candidates that are knowledgeable of the Supreme Court's clarifications of the federal governments limited powers listed above.
Perfect.
Voters did not vote for window dressing. They voted for full repeal.
This will balance the budget in 10 years.
Nothing illegal about it. A good idea for the most part.
The worst of initial Ryancare was
1. Increasing premiums
2. Gov’t control of health credit expenditure on health insurance only and not also on health costs.
3. Defined policy instead of menu of coverages
4. No repeal of death panel type social intrusions
5. Non indexed to inflation rich guy mandate not ended
6. Reconciliation misrepresented
The best was
1. Trillion tax cut
2. Mandates ended.
3. End of Planned Parenthood funding
4. End of Obamacare name
5.
The only good all inclusive mandated centrally planned healthcare system is no all inclusive mandated centrally planned healthcare system...
