On CNN this morning, the panel discussed the Trump admin’s announcement yesterday that it plans to roll back some of the Obama-era EPA regs viewed as overly restrictive on the coal industry.
Cuomo claimed that the Obama regs are “seen as key to keeping the United States from looking like Shanghai in terms of blowing all kinds of black smoke into the air.”

The EPA was created to resolve an air pollution problem. The danger in creating an organization of regulation writers is, what do they do when they have cleaned up the air? Answer, they continue to find things that need regulating until they are finally regulating things that have little or no impact on the environment because, to quote from the EPA report on arsenic in pressure treated lumber, “although the tests revealed no contamination, obviously less arsenic is a good thing.” And, every regulation increases the cost of the item regulated because suddenly, you have to test it and prove it meets the regulation. Hence the cost of paint has gone from a few dollars per gallon to ten times its original cost. Ditto with just about everything else I buy for buildings.

The EPA did clean up the air but their job is done. All cars have mandatory electronic ignition, cat converters, fuel injection and EGR. This is what cleaned up the air. You don’t need a agency anymore just some monitoring.
