Turkey is still the element that complicates the task of at hand. It is clear that Syria, Syrian Kurds, SDF Arab Militias, U.S., and Russia are focused on ending ISIS.

Erdogan the Islamist is continually demanding, bullying and threatening to prevent that happening.

Russians have the strongest commitment to Assad and the Syrian government. It would be very foolish for Erdogan to open a conflict with Russia. He long ago shot down one of Russia's planes. So far Russia has been silent about that, but it is clear they Putin keeps track of offenses.

We are just a few weeks from Erdogan's Referendum. Will he be granted his Dictatorship and extended "super powers"?

This article sounds very credible to me. I cannot get verification of my opinion today. But we will soon see, I guess.

We should have rewarded Turkey’s perfidy in their last minute denial of US troops access to northern Iraq through their territory with an Iraq divided along ethnic lines and a brand spanking new Kurdistan on their border.

An opportunity to tie up all of Turkey’s and Iran’s attention for generations lost. *sigh*

Thanks for the post.

I occasionally read Al Monitor articles and have wondered about their accuracy and bias .... The issue for all reporters and news outlets.

A.quick look at Wkiipedia re Al Monitor found, the on line paper started in 2012 in Wash DC. A pro Arab Paper

Thought this excerpt was interesting...

Pro-Hezbollah and pro-Assad positions Edit
Some commentators have alleged Al-Monitor follows the agenda of the Iranian and Syrian governments and Hezbollah.[9][10] In 2011, Al-Monitor founder Jamal Daniel bought 20% of As-safir, described by the New York Times as a “pro-Assad Lebanese newspaper”.[11] Daniel himself is said to have been a close friend of Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem when the latter was Syria’s envoy to the U.S.[12]

Also interesting are their board members and contributors
