For strategic reasons, I have signed onto liberal newsletter eblasts, so that I can know what the enemy is doing in my state. After Speaker Paul Ryan pulled the American Health Care Act (ACHA), every Democratic lawmaker, candidate, and special interest group exulted in their victory:
Your calls made the difference!
We did it!
You saved health care.
Uh no.
Because Obamacare remains intact, healthcare remains in morbid free-fall. Doctors are still quitting the medical field, with premiums rising, health insurance exchanges failing, and hospitals closing. Democrats did themselves no favors in fighting against reforms. Obamacare is still an albatross hanging around their necks, and they will have to blatantly lie to voters that its working, or that somehow the Republicans are to blame because they keep trying to fix the mess created by the Democratic Party.
So, should Democrats around the country pat themselves on the back for stopping another disaster? Perhaps they deserve a little bit of credit, since they were loud. The true glory and applause belong to Republicans across the country who hammered the Congressional majority to reject Obamacare-lite.
Yes. I wrote that.

How can anyone consider keeping obamacare a success?
Thank God it is dead.. the management amendment alone was enough of a problem for a big NO for me. Punishing and targeting veterans was wrong. Now get to work with a 50 state solution and a full repeal. Thanks for standing. I know trump says he will target you next Freedom Caucus, but he supported the bill that targeted veterans so his opinion matters little. The same day he stood in front of a medal of honor winner no less. Treating veterans far below illegals.. why was that ever a good idea. Thank you Rep Meadows for standing and speaking.
Good question. There are two answers and, I assume, something less than unanimous agreement here at good old FR.
Here you go. Take your choice:
1. It was a huge failure. We missed the chance to get rid of Obamacare and replace it with something better.
2. We dodged a bullet. Passing Trump-Obamacare-Lite would have leave us with the same mess as Obamacare but now our name would be on it. We kept our powder dry, and will try for a full repeal in the future. In the meantime it's the Dems who are holding on to the Obamacare Disaster and will get the blame when it finally crashes and burns.
Take your pick.
When the choice (Ryancare) kept all the bad parts and rebranded it as a Republican Bill then leaving it as Obamacareare was a fantastic success.
And only Free Republic’s closeted globalists suggest otherwise.
I have very mixed feelings about the whole process. I remember Trump saying “repeal and replace” on a number of occasions and I also understand that the 3-phase delayed-action plan by Ryan was very optimistic and highly unlikely of follow-through. I really wasn’t in favor of it but I don’t think we (I guess the HFC) even gave it a chance to get down to some WH/Congress/Caucus negotiation, either. Kill it or else, keep it as-is or else.
Okay, it’s killed and I accept that and the HFC can call it their win, but it is also a win that the Democrats (even HRC) are crowing about. Funny turnout of fates to end up on the same side, huh? That’s what rubs me wrong the most.
In the end, I don’t blame President Trump. I blame RYAN and I blame the HFC - I think they should have tried to salvage something to stand together upon. In the end, I’m sticking with Trump over anybody or anything else.

Me too.
I’m curious, and only cuz I don’t know the details of the bill. In what way were veterans targeted?
Must be great FC won. Nancy and Barack are estactic
I heard Gingrich on Hannity talk about this little factoid yesterday: It took the DemocRATs almost a *YEAR* to put together the ObamaCare bill before it even got signed into law.
It’s been digging its roots into the fabric of our society ever since, and Trump supporters are crying, bitching, and running to their fainting couches because of what happened yesterday after FIFTY DAYS of effort to remove it.
Sigh...wish I could understand people sometimes.
If one’s definition of victory is keeping Full Blown Obamacare
for the foreseeable future, with the real possibility of RINO’s and
RAT’s voting together to keep funding it...then what is the victory?
You left out Phase 2 and Phase 3.
Many believe the other two phases would never happen.
But we will never know now.
Full Blown Obamacare is here to stay.
I'm not bitching, but if you think the HFC or Ryan has made fast friends with me you're barking up the wrong tree. I accept the event and will move on, but in the end I know who got us to this point to be even able to do something about it.
Well, don't keep us all in suspense! Who is this mysterious individual? We wait with bated breath...
In the end, Im sticking with Trump over anybody or anything else.

I really don’t see your point. I think I was pretty clear in my statements. I don’t know what your take is, really.
Frankly, that’s not a problem for me. I know who I’ll be voting for and who I will be voting against. And I can tell you the way things are coming down the ones, that has the problem are the HoR and Senate. Not my choice for President.
1. O-care was dead the minute Trump took office. The IRS announced it was NOT requiring signatures on insurance line. That’s it. Gone. The “individual mandate tax” is THE ONLY enforcement mechanism.
2. The rest is clutter, bureaucratese. Hardship? Yes. Unnecessary burdens? Yes. But killing the mandate is what Republicans have run on for 7 years. Gone.
