Trump's budget aside, NPR and PBS should not get public subsidies
New York Daily News ^ | March 23, 2017 | John R. Lott Jr.

Posted on 03/23/2017 7:00:38 PM PDT by rogerantone1

Whatever original purpose public broadcasting had back in 1969, President Trump is right: The reason for its existence is long gone. With more than 900 cable networks in 2014, it is hard to argue that there is an unmet need for broadcasting. It is especially hard to argue when public broadcasting is costing the federal government nearly a half billion dollars every year.

In the face of serious attempts to cut subsidies in 1995 and 2005, the rallying cry to protect government funding was "Save Big Bird!" Of course, Sesame Street is now on HBO anyway.

They are totally liberal biased against anything conservative and bash conservatism whenever they can. Let them be financed by liberals and see how long they will last.

I enjoy listening to the blues music on weekends from my local NPR station, paid for by the liberals who make pledges to support their weekday propaganda programs.

The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation could easily foot the entire half billion dollar yearly budget. Give them a call.

But how will we brainwash the masses into believing that everyone is being bullied, Latinos cant get an apartment because they have kids, crazy eyed blind chicks cant get one because her seeing eye pig doesnt measure up to the property owners definition of 'support animal', and all kinds of other socially destructive drivel that weak minded that serve no vital public interest?

They have bashed Trump every day multiple times since he was elected.

Not a single positive thing about Trump, his team, or Republicans.

They also squeeze the bent, gay agenda into some news at least once every hour.

All REAL artists are gay, dead ones were gay and even the good dead politicians were gay according to NPR.

That said, I listen free, never contributed a dime.

Listening to NPR is like reading Cosmo to get the enemy battle plans.

Why should the citizens be forced to pay for Marxist propaganda?

As usual, John Lott is exactly right.

Here's his latest book, "The War on Guns: Arming Yourself Against Gun Control Lies":

https://www.amazon.com/War-Guns-Yourself-Against-Control/dp/1621575802

From the article:

There is a reason why conservatives so distrust NPR. I have done thousands of radio interviews, but nothing compares to my consistent experience with NPR.

They would interview me for hours, repeating the same question over and over in the hope of getting a more acceptable answer. When that didn't work, they would selectively edit what I said to completely change the meaning.

In 2001, I finally stopped agreeing to pre-taped interviews with NPR.

In 2016, I did another interview with an NPR show under the pretext that it was a live interview. But they misled me. It was taped. In what finally appeared, first, they held a long discussion with gun-control advocates. Then, after calling me controversial, they briefly used selected unrelated segments from my interview. Finally, they let the gun-control advocates criticize my points without being challenged. My criticisms and counterarguments were left on the cutting room floor.

That's how unethical NPR really is. These are vile people. It is obscene that American conservatives are forced to pay for false anti-conservative propaganda on our "national," "public," radio network.

Defund NPR completely, and don't let them keep their name. Attack them at both the federal and state level.

I could have written exactly what you wrote. Totally agree.

We shouldn’t simply defund NPR/PBS. We should liquidate them, and use the profits to pay down the national debt.

I listen everyday, and the amount of bias and propaganda is really off the charts.

Certainly not PBS - none of the programs highlighting the very special abilities and achievements of gays, blacks and women which they show incessantly appeal much to straight, white, male me, and until I start to see celebrations of my particular class, I’d rather my tax money go elsewhere....

The problem is with public. Public schools are failing. Public transportation is for losers. Public radio is liberal propaganda. Public housing has been torn down. Public parks are okay but would be better if they kept out people with boomboxes.

If their propaganda is off the charts, and it is, why do you waste your precious time listening to them every day?

To the Progressives and Leftists, and the sheeple they have indoctrinated, “the nation” is not doing something unless the federal government is doing it.

From their point of view, “the nation” is not supporting “the arts” if the $155 million to the NEA is cut, in spite of the fact that the United States, in the form of individual, corporate and foundations donations is contributing many BILLIONS every year to the arts. WE THE PEOPLE, voluntarily, ARE hugely contributing to the arts, with no federal government needed to do it.

I have a 15-20 minute daily commute in both directions, there are two right-leaning talk radio stations that I generally go back and forth between, but when they’re both pairing commercials, I switch over to the local NPR affiliate to the extent that I can tolerate it.
