Let's start with a basic fact. Contrary to news reports last week, President Trump is not eliminating funding for Meals on Wheels. He's not even cutting it.
How do we know this? Meals on Wheels says so. A statement issued by Meals on Wheels America on Thursday notes that 35% of the revenues at the 5,000 or so local Meals on Wheels programs come via the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program.
Trump's budget outline says nothing about this program whatsoever.

We had a thread on this yesterday. I posted some information on how it works and menus and costs etc.
It does help people.
One place in VA provides foods for your pets, too. Microwave and box fan.

Meals on Wheels only receives only about 3% of it’s funding from Uncle Sam and they use that for research. The rest is from other sources.
I contacted them last week as we need some help. The social worker who called back let me know that my wife and I don’t qualify. I’m 100% totally and permanently disabled (housebound) according to Veterans Affairs and my wife has lost her sight due to strokes. Who exactly qualifies?
Oh my. Each jurisdiction is different.
I will give you an example.
My relative is 100% MENTALLY disabled but can walk and leave the house.. and qualified due to cooking issues...but not at a reduced cost. Had to pay full cost.
I would try to pursue it further. You should qualify.
Btw, if there is any way you qualify even a little bit for MHICAM at the VA..some areas are very good and provide quite a bit of assistance in matters relating to getting things done.
What is MHICAM? I was a vet rep at the unemployment office for many years but it doesn’t ring a bell.
Are you white?
If so, there’s your disqualifyer.
Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM)
I don’t know how much of a mental health issue you have to have to qualify.
The program is amazing. They will take you grocery shopping, out to eat...run errands, help you do your bills, negotiate through paperwork, etc.
Luckily, I have no mental health issues. My disabilities are mostly heart/vascular and that sort of thing.
Colin Kaepernick just gave a hefty donation to Meals on Wheels to demonstrate his contempt for Trump. No doubt on the advice of his publicity agent.
Gee, I wonder if Shelia Jackson Lee will still have a demonstration on the streets of Houston bytching about this travesty?????? She probably will.......she loves the cameras and no one will stand up to her and tell her what a lyin’ boob she is.
When I applied for food stamps after Hurricane Katrina I was all but laughed out of the building.
You should still qualify for meals on wheels.
Keep trying. You are the perfect example of why meals on wheels is in place. Homebound.
Also, Walmart and target are getting better at having food delivered to you. That is another option. Another possibility is Schwanns home delivery but they are expensive.

And now is a tactic being used against Putin/Russia by the Dems and MSM. Irony.

Where’d you hear that?
Just looked at meals on wheels in New Orleans.. Good Lord, they have a waiting list of 800 people
