Angelina Jolie’s Latest Adoption Scandal

Angelina Jolie has been no stranger to scandal over the years, but the latest storm that’s brewing could be one of the most serious yet — if it proves to have any merit at all, that is. Mounh Sarath, an aid worker in Cambodia, is claiming that he listed himself as the father of Maddox Jolie-Pitt on the boy’s adoption papers to help speed up the process for the actress in 2003. “She had to change his name, so the only way was for me to do it. I said he’s my son,” he explained. Allegedly, Jolie was supposed to fix that detail later, but according to Sarath, she never did. Based on this, the 51-year-old is arguing that he actually still has power of attorney over the 15-year-old boy.

On Sunday, Sarath produced the document he’d filed with a court in Battambang, Cambodia, in August 2003, which seemed to confirm the court considered him the father, according to the Sun; however, his documentation does not seem to prove that either Jolie or her then-husband, Billy Bob Thornton (who originally adopted Maddox too), knew Sarath had done this. Neither has commented on the allegations.

It may be true, but it seems like a shakedown. Why not come forward earlier?

Anyway, not that I feel a huge amount of compassion for wealthy, privileged celebs, but this doesn’t seem fair.

Isn’t it their (Angelina Billy Bob) responsibilities and their Lawyers job to know there is a father and what is going on?

Really? doesn't Cambodia require surrendering allegiance to any other country in order to become a citizen of Cambodia? How does that new citizenship affect her status as a UN goodwill ambassador for the US? And why is she preaching to America about open borders? Shouldn't she be giving speeches in her new country of Cambodia urging them to open their borders, too?

This makes no sense. If he claimed to be the father, he would have had to give up his rights to the child before the American government would have allowed him to be adopted and brought here. End of story.

I was never attracted to her, maybe that was it all along. When I look at her all I see is her father’s face. So there goes the attraction. But maybe it goes deeper than that. She does nothing for me at all.

When you adopt internationally, at each step of the process they check (both the child's country of origin and US) to make sure the child is an orphan. Angelina Jolie's son was adopted from Cambodia, one of the countries where all adoptions had been stopped because too many children were of questionable background and were being allowed to be adopted. At the time she adopted Maddox, though, both the US and Cambodia had decided the issue had been resolved and therefore adoptions form Cambodia to the US are final. There is a search for the biological parents and a time period that they can come forward, not just parents but extended family. (Obviously before the adoption is final.) If the only man to step forward wasn't the biological father, than he has no rights.. If no other man stepped forward during the time period he had to claim his child, Cambodia declared the child an orphan free for adoption.

I am more familiar with China and S Korea, but that is the law. These countries don't have the resources to track down and dna test potential parents, and in China alone there are about 1.5 million children under 18 living in orphanages.

Are you? There are pictures of her in high school. It doesn't look like she was a boy. So it's extremely unlikely a sex change occurred.

If she was one of those unfortunate people who were born anatomically flawed in some way (ambiguous genitalia, etc.), it's none of our business adding to her misery.
