Putin's Real Syria Agenda
ISW - Institute for the Study of War ^ | 20 Mar 17 | Genevieve Casagrande and Kathleen Weinberger

Key Takeaway: Russian President Vladimir Putin's primary objective in Syria is to constrain U.S. freedom of action - not fight ISIS and al Qaeda. Russia's military deployments at current levels will not enable the Iranian-penetrated Assad regime to secure Syria. Moscow's deepening footprint in Syria threatens America's ability to defend its interests across the Middle East and in the Mediterranean Sea. The next U.S. step in Syria must help regain leverage over Russia rather than further encourage Putin's expansionism.

Russia's intervention in Syria in September 2015 fundamentally altered the balance of the Syrian Civil War.Russia re-established momentum behind Syrian President Bashar al Assad and his Iranian allies at a moment when major victories by ISIS and Syrian rebels threatened to force the regime to contract into Syria's central corridor. The capabilities Russia deployed were not limited to the airframes, artillery, and personnel needed to conduct a counter-terrorism or counter-insurgency mission, however. Russia deployed advanced air defense and ballistic missile systems, naval units, air superiority aircraft, and other capabilities in a display of major Russian force projection in the region. Russian President Vladimir Putin is altering the balance of power in Syria and the Eastern Mediterranean through sustained Russian military operations and additional deployments of high-end capabilities.

Yeah, plus too many details, insights, and footnotes. Fake news, obviously.

ISW is a known hangout for Neocons.

Their opinion on this matter is not surprising.

Everything is Russia’s fault and we must fight them to the death.

fundamentally altered the balance of the Syrian Civil War.Russia re-established momentum behind Syrian President.................... “President”! Elected by the majority! It means he wasn’t backed by Obama and Hillary. Hillary’s response to Putin would be a gross of red plastic reset buttons.

For 300 years the Russians have desired a warm water port and open access to the Mediterranean and that is exactly what they were almost able to achieve when Obama was president.

Now, must work to keep Russia from having control and open access to a warm water port and Syria is where that conflict is right now.

The truth is Putin and Trump plan to take over Mecca and charge the Muslims $1000 each to fondle the Allah stone.

The next U.S. step in Syria must help regain leverage over Russia rather than further encourage Putin's expansionism.

Translation: Work with the Saudis to continue to create/promote sunni jihadi-Islamist groups to continue to wage proxy war, create refugees and grind Syria into dust.

Or as you’d have it: Allow Putin to restore the Russian Empire and dominate nations near and far while threatening America, its allies, and its partners.

The insurgency wasn’t the only threat then. Nation states were openly threatening conventional attack. The USA and Turkey were within days of attacking the Syrian Army.
The Russians saved us from an ISIS/Saudi Syria.

Why?

The Russians are looking at another port in Libya near the Egyptian border where they have a client general.

Russians and Assad have helped ISIS; they attack rebels only. That’s why Assad is peeved that we are there, we and our mainly Kurdish forces were beating ISIS.

ISIS still has a presence in Palmyra I heard, the Iranians and Russians haven’t done much about that and one of those Iranian outfits was reporting months ago that they had forced ISIS out of Palmyra, total rubbish. Now, ISIS appears to be being defeated in Palmyra.

“Russians and Assad have helped ISIS”

What is the evidence of that?

You MUST be talking about Turkey and the Saudis.

I just wish these Geo-Strategic wonderkinderen would focus their lust for world control towards an actual Marxist Enemy, like the one with the worlds largest population perhaps?

Tiananmen II sounds a lot smarter to me than Cold War II.

And then use a little JFK logic and say any attack on Americans by an Radical Islamic Terror group will be considered an attack on America by Islam resulting in elimination of Mecca from the earth.
