While discussing the Markeith Loyd case Thursday, State Attorney Aramis Ayala said she will not seek the death penalty during her administration.
Ayala said she made the decision after conducting a review.
The most visible case immediately affected by Ayala's decision is Loyd's, who is charged with killing Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton and his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
Ayala's statement was made during a news conference she called to discuss her decision not to seek the death penalty in the Loyd case.

Aramis Ayala, a candidate for Orange-Osceola State Attorney, this week shared details of her husband’s criminal history, saying his experiences have helped shape her perspectives on the justice system.
The Democratic challenger to incumbent Jeff Ashton told media outlets Tuesday that her husband since 2009, David, served seven years in prison on drug conspiracy and counterfeiting charges before they met.

Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala said during a news conference Friday afternoon that two assistant state attorneys and four victim advocates have been fired following drug-use allegations.
The conference was held 3:30 p.m. outside the Orange County Courthouse.
Ayala said the six employees either used drugs, were in the presence of drugs or witnessed drug use on more than one occasion. She said the cocaine and marijuana use did not occur while the employees were at the office.

On Thursday afternoon, Orange-Osceola County State Attorney Aramis Ayala was one of the featured guests at the Tiger Bay of Central Florida Meeting, and for the first time since her history making victory last year, she confronted several controversial issues in front of the most influential audience in the region.
One of the first questions asked during the program was the money donated by Progressive Bilionaire George Soros during Ayalas campaign last year.

“Earlier today, I called on State Attorney Ayala to immediately recuse herself from this case. She informed me this afternoon that she refuses to do that.” Scott said.
“She has made it clear that she will not fight for justice and that is why I am using my executive authority to immediately reassign the case to State Attorney Brad King.”
