Christopher Steele is the former British spy who compiled the “garbage” dossier on Trump-Russia ties, as Bob Woodward put it. That garbage dossier was cravenly and opaquely hyped by the American press until BuzzFeed released it, at which point the public could see its transparently ludicrous and uncorroborated contents. The release of the dossier exposed the vague, heavy-breathing allusions to it by CNN and the “intelligence community” as nothing more than an idiotic smear against Trump.
Steele had been zealously working to blow up Trump’s candidacy. Such was his anti-Trump fervor that he furnished his late-hit services to the Democrats for free. According to a story planted in the United Kingdom’s Independent, “at the end he was working without pay.”
Written in a style designed to flatter its source, the story said that a deeply worried Steele was shoveling his phony intelligence to John Brennan and British spies, as well as trying to prod FBI director James Comey into accelerating his investigation into Trump (the same investigation that the American press now pretends never happened):
Mr Steele also decided to pass on information to both British and American intelligence officials after concluding that such material should not just be in the hands of political opponents of Mr Trump, who had hired his services, but was a matter of national security for both countries.However, say security sources, Mr Steele became increasingly frustrated that the FBI was failing to take action on the intelligence from others as well as him. He came to believe there was a cover-up, that a cabal within the Bureau blocked a thorough inquiry into Mr Trump, focusing instead on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Just kidding. We don't know if it is fake or not unless it comes from a trustworthy identifiable source. And even then I have my doubts.
Hell we had Canadians going door-to-door in Erie, Pennsylvania canvassing votes for Hillary.
Because Louise Mensch, a British “journalist” who was secretly working for John Podesta’s Hillary campaign and wrote the slogan “I’m With Her” (exposed by Wikileaks and otherwise we would never have known), BRAGS ABOUT IT EVERY DAY ON HER TWITTER ACCOUNT, claiming Trump will be “impeached” any minute!
So that’s one way. She calls Christopher Steele a “hero” and Buzzfeed “courageous” for publishing the “dossier.”
All the while she is seeking U.S. citizenship, which should be denied, because she is actively undermining POTUS every day with reported Deep State leaks....

The article is mostly a review and analysis of known events, naming who said or published what, and when, and is well-written by journalistic standards. Some conclusions the author draws from the evidence might prove inaccurate in the light of new information, but this is not a fake bombshell. Worth a read.
Something he does not get into that I find likely, is that much of this activity was part of a Hillary media optics strategy. Seed the waters with opposition research. Add GSHQ surveillance and claims of shadowy foreign contacts to force the FBI to open an “investigation”. Hillary-ites in the FBI and DoJ then leak anything damaging to the media. The mere fact of leaks unleash the Media to hammer away at whether an investigation exists. FBI says we can’t comment, but “unofficial sources” say yes, of course we are investigating. Can’t give you specifics but it involves Russian banks. Ooooh. Media frenzies and echoes. Nothing substantive ever need have existed, just froth for the fake-o-sphere, to derail Trump. After Hillary won, all would drift away.
McCain passed this garbage dossier to the FBI. This shows how bright McCain is.

Today’s Hillary-Obola-obsessed media do not need any real information, they will promote suspicions and embarrassing details immediately simply because they ARE suspicions and they ARE rumors against Trump.
For example, have ANY of the “surge in attacks” against women, minorities, and Muslims actually been committed by “Trump supporters” anywhere in the world? Yet it is reported as if EVERY attack were actually only 1 of hundreds occurring in every neighborhood and at every subway station!
Yet NO voter fraud can be admitted at all. Nowhere, at no time, can voter fraud be admitted in any precinct.

I wouldn’t want to set the bar at “any”, since every demographic and political affinity is bound to have some ignorant morons, criminals and lunatics who do horrible things. An engineer from India was murdered recently by a racist barfly, who railed about foreigners, etc. The victim was exactly the sort of intelligent, productive immigrant I welcome, and believe Trump does too.
Your overall point is on target. Many of the “horror stories” pan out to be planned hoaxes, or cover stories made up ad hoc. The leftists try their best to create a climate of fear, resentment, and outrage by retailing the stories to their uncritical followers.
