Sen. Tom Cotton said Tuesday that it's vital for Republicans to get legislation repealing Obamacare right on the first try because he doesn't believe there are going to be three steps to the process, as proponents have outlined.
"There is no three-step plan. That is just political talk," Mr. Cotton, Arkansas Republican, told radio host Hugh Hewitt.
Republicans say there's only so much legislation they can get through the first time around under agreed-to budget rules. Step two would then involve regulatory changes, followed by more legislation.
Mr. Cotton said step two could be subject to court challenges and that step three would involve "some mythical legislation in the future that is going to garner Democratic support and help us get over 60 votes in the Senate."
"If we had those Democratic votes, we wouldn't need three steps," he said. "We would just be doing that right now on this legislation all together."
"That's why it's so important that we get this legislation right. Because there is no step three, and step two is not completely under our control," he said.

I am okay with a three-step plan, if it’s the right path.
Step 1 should be Trump executive orders:
Parallel with the waivers Obama granted to unions and others with connections (and referencing those waivers), President Trump should grant every American citizen and every American business a lifetime waiver on all Obamacare mandates and penalties.
Step 2 should be legislation:
Once Obamacare’s fangs have been drawn, only then should we negotiate a repeal and not replace bill. We need that evil law dead so that liberals have no leverage.
Step 3 should be any replacement that is desired:
My vote is tort reform, interstate sales of medical insurance, and other free market options.
Cotton is SPOT ON in his assessment of the situation. The first legislation needs to have ALL the essential pieces and NOTHING that needs to be ameliorated.

Won’t get fooled again.
My plan is simple. Hold weekly votes in both houses on full 100% repeal, launch an all-out PR campaign targeting vulnerable democrats on Obamacares death spiral in their district, and squeeze them to the point they surrender and vote to repeal.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
There is one step and a bunch of promises. Come to think of it the first step is nothing but a bunch of promises as well.

As I read his comments, Cotton is being about as useful as Linda Graham or his pal, McLame.

Sorry, but you are gullible. Do you honestly believe this going to be repealed in phases? Please point to where Trump said this repeal would be done in phases? We have one chance to get this right.
Trump appears to be backing away from his campaign promise. He goes along with Ryancare, and he’s ensuring a 1 term presidency with a huge loss in credibility.
Well if they don’t put a replacement in place, it seems very likely to me that the balance of public sentiment will shift from hating Obamacare to hating “Whatever replaced it” even more and if they lose majorities in either house of Congress in 2018, Obamacare damn sure is here to stay.
Of course the purists would rather suffer under Obamacare than accept a compromise because...they’re purists.

Cotton is right and I’d think Trump would appreciate this kind of common sense talk.
And the “unpurists” want to keep Fedzilla in charge of all healthcare and medical records.

We were promised ACA repeal, not ACA amend.
Ryan keeps insisting amend is repeal, he makes himself a bigger liar every time he opens his mouth.
The over-arching theme of these negotiations should be that the Fedgov has no place legislating health-care.
