The truth is we don’t have 51 votes. There are 5-6 Rats with R’s in their names. At this point l don’t see a repeal or tax cuts. If for no other reason then it would help Trump, a lot.

Something to always keep in mind...

The sixty vote requirement is not in the Constitution. It’s just a Senate rule. A rule that McConnell refuses to question.

Thanks for the important info. I didn’t even know what reconciliation was until now.

But if the votes aren’t there to pass the crappy house version in the senate, what happens next?

And a FReeper asked me a good question. Why does he need this trick if he, Paul and Lee vote against the bill and it can’t move forward anyway?

Doesn’t that send it back to the house and forces ryan’s (i hate him) hand?

thanks ahead of time.

We engage, we move on, we move forward to win the war not just the battle.

If Cruz operated that way, then he'd be a more formidable opponent of the leftists.

Hostage is the only loose cannon on this thread, but his barrel is plugged with balsa.

Ted Cruz has been the sole agent of conservative success for at least the last 17 years.

We all know that “Hostage” is Nancy Pelosi’s FR handle.

As for Cruz, I think he behaved very badly during the campaign but since the election he has redeemed himself several different times.

I totally agree with you that The Donald behaved VERY badly disparaging people left and right. Was it Temporary insanity or just his New York Values?

However I also agree that The Donald has redeemed himself in the White House

You say that you are for repeal, Hostage, but repeal requires sixty votes. So Cruz has come up with a way to repeal but CALL it reconciliation, requiring only fifty votes plus Pence. At that point, Lee and Paul would be on board. That’s the best of all worlds.

Forget the senate. If the democrat ever get power again they are planning to end us, period. Law will be your last concern.

The problem is that it blows up the Senate rules.

The level of stupid here is astounding.

The Senate can and has at various times made/changed the rules. It only take 51 Senators to vote on ANY rule change. AT ANY TIME

It is solely because of Ted Cruz’ masterful mind that we still have the right to own and bear arms, and are not subject to actions of the World Court.

I know that you are unable to wrap your diminutive mind around those two astounding facts.

You can attack all you want but you are obviously in the reconciliation camp with Ryan. I am in the repeal camp.

This Cruz thing has already been shot down. Old news.

It’s just ignoring the Parliamentarian and pretending you aren’t killing the filibuster.

Hardcore conservatives in the Senate will not support gutting the filibuster, which this does, nor should they as conservatives. So this story ended yesterday or the day before.

With all due respect regarding this —> “But in future years it means the dems can play the same game.”

If Dems can play that game in the future, they will play it. Doesn’t matter what the GOP does now. We need to NOT worry about what Dems will do in the future.

it could be a 3/d chess move on his part- I think Ted is working off the fact that people don’t want to be without insurance of some kind- If this crappy bill gets scraped- the house will likely have to work fast to fix it as people are waiting in limbo, and growing restless

I’m just guessing here- but Ted has done things similiar this before- forcing the hand of the rinos

I forgot to add that that is why rinos hated Ted before the primaries even got started-
