Former No. 1 box office draw has lukewarm memories of meetings with Scott, Askew
Burt Reynolds is not a fan of Florida's governor.
The 81-year-old "Smokey and the Bandit" star was critical of Gov. Rick Scott when he met with the media before a March 3 Florida Music Awards kickoff party in Fort Lauderdale.
....More films should be shot here," Reynolds said. "It's not Florida's fault, because Florida's got everything, you know? It's the governor. I remember I went in to see him and I said, 'You know, we ought to be shooting more movies down here.' And he said, 'Why?' I said, 'How did you get to be governor?' He's dumber than a peach orchard sow."

Hollywood can shoot as many films in Florida as they want to, nobody is stopping them
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
He wants taxpayers to dole out money in the form of tax breaks, most likely. Same thing happened in Asheville NC. Taxpayers must forfeit, so the poor Hollywood folk with personal chefs can afford to film there.
I dunno. Maybe he got the clap from Sally Field? Gotta give him credit for pulling off that make out scene in the front seat of that Trans Am in Smokey and the Bandit.
-—Hollywood can shoot as many films in Florida as they want to, nobody is stopping them-—
Of course something is stopping them....tax incentives...
Scott gutted them in Florida...
Not saying that’s a good or bad thing, but incentives work...
"New Yorks fully-refundable 30 percent film tax credit is the most generous in the nation, with an annual limit of $420 million. Brooklyn and Bridge of Spies, two of this years nominees, were filmed in New York, and their budgets were $12 million and $40 million, respectively."
Yeah, take Florida taxpayer's money, and give it to Hollywood. Then raise Florida taxes to New York levels to compensate. Makes sense. Not.
Say what you want about Burt Reynolds and from any perspective it can likely be true.
However give him his due, he was American masculinity in the 70’s. As much as Steve McQueen was in the 60’s, James Dean in the 50’s and John Wayne in the 40’s.
He has had as many ups and downs as Johnny Cash did and when he passes will be just as iconic.
I’m not going to make this about the merits of film making, tax credits and film boards/offices.
I love the guy.
Except their accounting departments.
Why shoot in Fl. when right across the state line they have this?:
Georgia film tax incentives offer production incentives up to 30% of your Georgia production expenditures in transferable tax credits.
I can only laugh at that because of what I've heard about this guy. I won't let it crush your feelings about your idol, though. LOL.
Burt Reynolds and the Hollywood he represents are complaining that Gov Scott refused to give them a pile of our taxpayer money to make films in FL.
If Hollywood would return to making decent films they would not need government handouts.
Is he a poofter?

Are you saying, you heard he was hung like a hamster?
Bankrupt, has-been Burt Reynolds attempting to curry favor with the Hollywood crowd by trashing a successful Southern Republican governor.
Pi$$-off, Burt.
Lowering tax burdens via incentives works if it brings in more tax revenues overall. Reaganomics works.
I never heard that one before.
Hollywood hasn’t made a good movie since “Gator”.
Bravo Channel lost this Texas viewer forever when the Texas Tourism Bureau gave them $$$$ to film Top Chef here. What a despicable waste of tax dollars.
Movie incentives are like foot cream. Once you stop applying it, your feet are dry again. All incentives do is spend taxpayer money with no return.
New-speak interpretation (with proper edits for parsing):
You know, we Hollywood of California ought to be shooting more movies down here with tax-exemptions and STATE tax abatements.
Go away Burt...just go away.
