'Justin Bieber impostor' on 931 child sex-related charges
BBC News ^ | March 8, 2017

A man who posed as Justin Bieber online has been charged with more than 900 child sex-related crimes in Australia.

The man, 42, masqueraded as the Canadian singer to gain explicit images from children, Queensland Police said. He was charged with 931 crimes, including three of rape, involving 157 alleged victims across the globe.

Detective Inspector Jon Rouse called the allegations "frankly horrendous" and warned young fans of the singer and parents to be vigilant.

"The fact that so many children could believe that they were communicating with this particular celebrity highlights the need for a serious rethink about the way that we as a society educate our children about online safety," said Mr Rouse.

Too bad these kids didn’t have parents /s

They are young and vulnerable.

My niece is 13 and my sister knows where she is at all times.

She can use the internet for doing reports for school.

Can’t imagine a kid 14 or younger just going where they want or doing what they want.

Ah, that’s not true. Kids in my neighborhood were free to roam by 10 years old.

Our times & culture have done a dramatic shift since the leftist/hippie cultural revolution of the 60’s.

You said: “Kids in my neighborhood were free to roam by 10 years old.” Today that is not a good thing - lefties call it free ranging.

But before the revolution, a 10 year old could be with buddies, actually several blocks away. The worst they could do was play baseball, cops-n-robbers, cowboy, marbles, etc. Rapists were from big cities you just read about, a murder was rare, most apt to be some guy whacking his cheating wife, child abductions practically non-existent. Homo’s firmly hidden in their closet, if any at all. The teachers at school could swat a kid on the butt and not get in trouble. And NO INTERENT.

Kids of that 50’s early 60’s era learned respect & common sense naturally. Same with freedom. A kid could not just roam without the fears of today, but with zero interference from the government. Mom always knew where the kids were. Kids always came home.

“Can’t imagine a kid 14 or younger just going where they want or doing what they want.”

Neither can I. All my kids got were flip phones and very limited Internet access until they were 18 and making their own money.

Really strange, they don’t seem to have any issues these days.

Sadly, though, I suspect that most parents, even on this site, simply GIVEN IN to the pestering of their kids, and sign up for Smart Phone “family plans”, as the extra cost is small. I wouldn’t mind a federal law stating that all contracts have to be INDIVIDUAL...so if you have 2 kids, you pay close to $100 for each of them too...that would probably help a lot.

“Can’t deprive little Tiffany of what her friends have, and it makes her so happy and occupied. I just can’t believe she’d do naughty things on it. She just texts her friends and plays Candy Crush, I think.” /s

The keeping up with the Jones’ babysitter, quieter, exposer and porn delivery system. Innocence lost, long ago. Glad I knew America then.

Yep...it’s keeping up with the Jones’s. How does your kid (i.e., any kid) explain to other kids why they’re stuck with a flip phone? My, it must be TRAUMATIC for them. But funny, never was for my kids, they just rolled with it.

How the Hell does anyone believe that a 42 year old is Justin Bieber?

If some creep asked me via the internet to send him/her/other a picture of me nude, I would tell him that I'll ask for his home address, so the police can deliver it personally along with an arrest warrant.

yes, I'm online, but I us it for checking world events (here on FR), getting recipes, checking stocks and talking to my cousins. If someone said he is Justin Bieber, I will say that the truth meter will be at .0001% since why would he wants my picture. Stupid people....

Agreed.

I have to admit we ran around from 10am to 9pm when me and my cousin were kids in the ‘70s.

Things started to turn when I was 16. That was ‘84.

Some guy tried to give my little cousin Danielle some candy out his window and I chase him like a mother @#$#$.

The good old days were coming to an end.

Nonsense. In the 50’s and 60’s my friends and I were offered candy or asked to get in cars. We were told never to take candy from strangers and never get in anyone’s car, ever.

These things happened in good neighborhoods.

This sort of evil has been around from time immemoriam

Actually I grew up in a really nice community. This was normal everywhere. We all used to joke about it.

Bad people have been everywhere for a long time.

My mom told of when she was a little girl and walking home with her older sister from school. Some guy flashed them as they walked through an abandoned gravel pit.

They told mom, they called the police and the cops questioned them.

A few days later they called them in to I.D. the guy in a line-up. My mom said she had never been so scared - to be in a police station! (”No - not so much seeing the guy. But just to be inside one - only bad people went there!”)

Anyway - it was him. (They had seen a nearby car at the time that they also I.D.)

Turns out evidence they found also had him as the killer of a young woman in a nearby park!

This would have been around 1925 or so!!

I’m guessing that percentages of people with weird things going on is about the same - but with millions more people there are just more of them. And also the whole risk-reward thing going on, the internet probably allows some of these guys that would think of being peeping Toms on little girls, but would never do it at the risk of getting caught in the bushes outside a window. But with people thinking they can hide behind a computer screen - get the kids to send them the photos with little to no risk. (At least that is what they think!) “Hey - I’m not using my real name - nobody could ever know who I really am!!”)

And the internet adds to the problem.

Or at least the perceived increase. I imagine my mom’s incident was in the local paper, but probably didn’t make it in the news outside the state.

Now some guy pretending to be Justin Bieber and looking at porn on his computer his world-wide news! (Okay - it was more than just “porn”, but you get the idea.)
