Spicer: “This is the Obamacare replacement plan that everyone has been asking for, that the president ran on…”

“Spicer: “These are the principals for which conservatives have been fighting for for years””

What a load of BS.

Also, Price said he was unaware that health insurance executives making more than $500,000 would get a tax break under this legislation.

This is a ghastly piece of garbage legislation. President Trump needs to pressure Congress to offer a genuine repeal bill, not a weasel program that will make bad matters worse.

Am I not understanding this correctly? All of the mandates are gone. People are free to shop around and buy any health insurance they want. Or none at all. Competition will be introduced via allowing ins cos to operate across state lines.

Pre existing conditions will be covered by special risk pools.

There will be tax credits to offset the cost of health insurance. And everyone gets to have an HSA.

People who can’t afford to buy will be able to get Medicaid.

Now, what is it I’ve got wrong? I admit to not spending much time on reading the Act.

Healthcare execs are going to get their promised payoff, come hell or high water.

The plan all along was that top execs of the few surviving companies would get big golden parachutes when the time to implement single payer finally arrived.

Thanks for the link. YOu’ll have to pardon my skepticism, but a tweet from a TIME reporter? I’d prefer to see the actual legislation, if they’ve posted it to see?

Sorry, but I get enough fake news a day, as it is...

If you drop insurance for 63 days when you buy it again it will cost 30% more in premiums for 1 year. For most people that will add up to more dollars in penalty than the IRS was collecting.

Does it include portability and tort reform?

Competition will be introduced via allowing ins cos to operate across state lines.

Probably unconstitutional. And if not, what will force insurance companies to sell across state lines?

Pre existing conditions will be covered by special risk pools.

And if your state chooses not to fund a special risk pool?

There will be tax credits to offset the cost of health insurance. And everyone gets to have an HSA.

If they can afford to fund an HSA. And if the credits cover the increasingly expensive premiums.

People who can’t afford to buy will be able to get Medicaid.

If they didn't qualify for Medicaid before Obamacare then they won't be able to get Medicaid under this plan since it eliminates the Medicaid expansion.

Now, what is it I’ve got wrong? I admit to not spending much time on reading the Act.

It doesn't address the Obamcare problem of skyrocketing healthcare insurance premiums.

No and no sales of insurance across state lines.
It is a tweaking of Obamacare, nothing more.

Also, Price said he was unaware that health insurance executives making more than $500,000 would get a tax break under this legislation.

Either your post or the original question that prompted Price's comment is deliberately misleading.

Health insurance executives earning more than $500,000 don't get a "tax break" at all. Health insurance executives that earn more than $500,000 are now treated no differently under the U.S. tax code than executives in any other industry. This restores the exact same tax provisions that existed before ObamaCare changed it.

The ObamaCare provision didn't apply to the individual executives. It capped the tax deductibility of salaries in excess of $500,000 for the insurance company.

Now we're just back where we were before ObamaCare -- which is exactly the way it should be. There's no reason why Microsoft or the Ford Motor Company should be able to fully deduct the salaries of their top executives as business expenses, while Aetna or Blue Cross/Blue Shield can't.
