Sen. Rand Paul: Been told to ‘take it or leave it’ on Obamacare strategy

Sen. Rand Paul on Friday said conservatives are being told to “take it or leave it” when it comes to the emerging House GOP plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, setting up a major clash with leaders hoping to mark up legislation as soon as next week. Republicans are trying to repeal and replace as much of the Affordable Care Act as they can under a fast-track budget process that allows them to avoid a Democratic filibuster. Leaders have outlined a three-week timetable to get the legislation over to the Senate, where it must meet arcane budget rules and gather consensus among Republicans who hold a 52-seat majority. Yet a trio of Senate conservatives — Mr. Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah — have objected to the House GOP approach, on top of centrists who are worried about unwinding Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid for the poor or defunding Planned Parenthood over its abortion practice as part of the draft plan. “The House is going to send something over, and you either take it or leave it,” Mr. Paul told CNN of leadership’s approach. “But I can tell you right now conservatives are inclined to leave it. We want a complete repeal bill, and the replacement bill should be separate, because we do have differences of opinion on the replacement.”

Government forcing people to purchase anything they don’t WANT to purchase should NEVER have been allowed to have happened. Personal choice is what FREE citizens seek. Just like it was before Obama screwed up not only the ‘ins we were told we could keep’ but the h/c insurance industry too. The old saying about ‘government is the PROBLEM, not the solution’ is SO true.

The GOPe want to push through, in secret Pelosi, an Obamacare 2.0 that does nothing to address the root causes of skyrocketing medical costs but does rescue the insurance companies from their ill-considered and now much regretted folly in embracing Ocare in the first place.

Isn’t it amazing that it is always those 3, (now that Sessions is gone.) Only 3 Senators holding the line.

Wish we could edit posts ;^

The GOPe want to push through, in secret a la Pelosi, an Obamacare 2.0 that does nothing to address the root causes of skyrocketing medical costs but does rescue the insurance companies from their ill-considered and now much regretted folly in embracing Ocare in the first place. They will then take voluble credit for 'repealing' Obamacare - all while the leftists laugh, their plan having worked perfectly.

The government has no business in healthcare. This was this initial blunder, and it will break the country. Call your conservative Freedom Caucus member, because there are 40 of them and Ryan’s Obamacare Lite cannot pass without them. Tell your congressman to vote NO! This time Rand Paul is right.

There is something blatantly wrong with the insurance system.

We have Christian Healthcare in our household - it’s $150 a month per person, $500 deductible. It’s simple and it works.

Design a system like this and everyone will be happy.

You are partly correct.

The thing is, government is ENORMOUSLY involved in how our healthcare system works.

There are THOUSANDS of laws, governing everything and everyone. Laws about who can practice. Laws about who can educate, licences, limitations, there are laws about who cannot practice, and what cannot be practiced. There are laws, and laws, and more laws.

About healthcare. In America.

So government is HIGHLY involved in American healthcare. Which is why, in large part, it is so enormously expensive.

I agree the government should not be involved. But that is not the case. The government is highly involved, in so many ways, in everything.

Healthcare is enormously expensive in America.

Expensive. Expensive. Expensive. So government needs to be completely involved in ensuring people can get coverage.

I am all for getting government (completely) out of healthcare.

The thing is, they are involved. Too involved, in my view, but as long as they are, they need to ensure nobody is screwed by the system we have.

Does Rand Paul have a replacement bill of his own? Does he have a plausible pathway to enactment? The issue is pretty simple. I don't know how many people currently get their health insurance through Obamacare, but it is several tens of millions. I wish it weren't so, but that is the fact on the ground. So: does Rand Paul really want to cancel the insurance of tens of millions of people, a fair number of whom won't have any practicable alternative at this point, on the theory that Congress will manage to enact a better plan sometime later?

The cancellation of many people's insurance, with which they were satisfied, and shoveling them into an inferior Obamacare system, was one of the primary indictments against Obamacare. Now R.P. proposes to cancel even more people's insurance with NO alternative, inferior or otherwise.

Replacement has to be linked to repeal. And we need 218 votes in the House and 51 votes in the Senate. Republicans are going to have to compromise within the caucus.

I will say it again, OBAMACARE WILL NEVER BE REPEALED in any way, shape or fashion. I watched COUNTLESS Government Unions proudly marching and advocating for OBAMACARE on TV all across this Country.

There is ONLY ONE WAY to make it happen:

Executive Orders

1. All waivers to the Affordable Care act are hereby repealed.

2. There shall be NO funds drawn from the treasury to pay for Health Insurance for ANY Federal Employee except Members of the Armed Services.

3. ALL Federal Employees except members of the US Armed Services, SHALL purchase their own personal and Family Health Insurance from the Affordable Care Exchange in the state they legally reside.

And to make sure it is Bipartisan, President Trump should VETO it every Time and FORCE them to Override his Veto to Repeal this Monstrosity.

Sign these 2 orders and it will be FULLY REPEALED in Less than 30 days.

NOT UNTIL, Anyone want to make a BET???

I would also consider another Executive Order Withholding All Transportation Funds from All States that do Not have Their Public Employees enrolled in Obamacare, just to Prove a Point.

When and ONLY WHEN Government Lives under the Same Laws as us will anything substantial happen

I AM TAKING BETS that the Rino Party Will NEVER REPEAL OBAMACARE!

It works until you have many big payouts ...no guarantees..plus one of them has already been nailed for what happened to funds.....it has been rebranded.

Sounds like Rand Paul is auditioning for John McCain’s role in the Republican party, whenever McCain finally shuffles off this mortal coil.

The fine print?

You need to be a member of a church, I believe Liberty Healthshare is more lenient on this, they require you to believe in God.

You should not take drugs or drink to excess.

The Wife had an operation on her leg, total bill was $7,900, our out of pocket was $390.

The Obamacare option was $1,000 a month (for two of us) and a $13,000 deductible.

PM me if you want more information, FRiend.

"Healthcare is enormously expensive" because of all the "free healthcare".....

NOTHING IS FREE!

Yeh the spineless RINOs want to leave the expensive part of Ocare in place. The Medicaid expansion is the expensive part. Planned Parenthood is a private organization that needs no govt funding. I hope the conservatives manage to leave it.
