Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, has demanded the release of a German journalist arrested in Turkey amid calls for her government to block a visit by president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan over the case.
The Turkish government summoned the German ambassador on Thursday to demand an explanation after appearances by two Turkish ministers in Turkey were prevented by local authorities amid widespread public anger at the arrest.
In a considerable hardening of her position, Mrs Merkel said Germany would do everything in its power to secure the release of Deniz Yucel, a correspondent for Welt newspaper held on charges of spreading terrorist propaganda.
Deniz Yucel, who is under arrest in Turkey and whose release we are demanding, is in our thoughts, Mrs Merkel said.

Is he truly insane?
Just commit to take another million Muslim "refugees," and you can have her.
Nobody cares about the Kurds here. Why are you here doing this? Are you an operative. If the Administrator will run your worthless posts he will see you are a foreign plant pushing a foreign agenda that we don’t care about. We care about AMERICA!! We care about TRUMP. We care about our Borders, We don’t giver a rat’s ass about the KURD/ TURKEY deal. Fight it out with your own blood and money WE RE OUT!!
Bye
I am so glad , again, that you are leaving. Who are you? why are you pushing a foreign agenda here. Explain you purpose in this Kurd crap over and over. This is not a foreign propaganda site. At some point you become a nuisance and I advocate your removal as a foreign agent.
Do what you want to do. You’re nuts.
Just don’t read it.
Simple.
.
WENDLE, I’m chalking up your posts as simply stemming from lack of knowledge of the situation & players in the Middle East. Some of us have had family members serve in the US military in areas where they have worked with Kurds and other ethnic groups. I’m reasonably sure that there are a number of FReepers who served there themselves. The Kurds are the ONLY people in that area of the world I would trust based upon what I have been told. So some of here are interested in news concerning them. That does not make us monsters.
I think that you are already a nuisance. If you don’t want to hear about the Kurds, don’t read posts that talk about them.
Also, Free Republic is about much, much more than current national politics.
Where are you on the flooding in California? Did you read about the commotion over pipelines in N Dakota? Do you complain about the weekly Friday humor threads? Sports threads? The many religion threads?
After reading some of your comments I’m thinking you are attempting to make freepers look bad. Might be a good idea to cut this guy loose.
Sorry moderator I tried to alert a moderator.
Turkey and Russia are allies, dictatorships, the Sultan and the Czar.
So is the West. Just try to go picket a gay bar, or a mosque for that matter, with signs bearing Scripture - Leviticus 18:22, or Romans 1:26 and see how long it takes for you to be hauled in on "hate crimes". And if you work in the corporate world, see how long you keep your job. Try to post videos of it on social media and see how quickly it's taken down. See how quickly even searching for it online magically produces zero hits.
We live in a muslo-sodomite dictatorship. It might not be an obvious head of state, but it is still Soros' insidious hired goon mobocracy. Not even Trump will be able to overthrow it - hell, the Soros friendly deep state is picking off his appointees left and right, and tapping his phones without fear of reprisal.
Putin and Erdogan meet again this week, maybe it’s like Stalin Hitler, when Russia corroborated with the Nazis. Ce La Vie. The Sultan and the $200 billion KGB agent.
The are both authoritarian. But not alike.
Erdogan wants to be Sultan. If wins referendum he will be. Genocide will be the result.
Putin? Not good guy. Somewhat nationalistic. Smarter than Erdogan.
I doubt the 2 of them have many common goals.
Putin is allied with Iran & Syria. Iran & Syria are not that much alike, but both evil.
