Columbia professors link ‘cluster of suicides’ to ‘distress’ over Trump (Comic relief for today)
The Washington Times ^ | March 3, 2017 | Douglas Ernst

Two Columbia University professors recently sent a letter to the institution’s president that linked a “fog” of political suffering to a “cluster of suicides” by students.

Professors Robert Pollack and Letty Moss-Salentijn, the co-chairs of the Columbia Faculty Affairs Committee, contacted Columbia President Lee Bollinger on Feb. 24 about the need to help “faculty to reach into themselves and find strength to express themselves.” The two mentioned student suicides before requesting venues for quiet conversations and easy access to websites dedicated to preserving freedom.

“faculty to reach into themselves and find strength to express themselves.”

Huh? The so-called “academics” never shut their yaps as is.

I read that title and thought it was talking about deaths in Colombia. LOL

Look, the professors got their kids jacked up to this level over Trump, and now they are looking for someone else to blame.

No professors, you're reaping what you sewed.

It's just embarrassing to see people not be able to put two and two together like that.

“We know no one at Columbia who is not upset, chronically and deeply, since the election,” the letter reads. “We know this is true of the Administration, and your letter [on executive orders] certainly embodies this distress. We know it is true of our students, and the cluster of suicides this month can have no other meaning.” Dr. Pollack contacted the educational watchdog Campus Reform on Wednesday to protest its coverage. “Speaking for both himself and Moss-Salentijn, [Dr. Pollack ] sent a belated response to Campus Reform denying that the letter was intended to insinuate that recent student suicides have been a result of distress over Trump’s election, even though the sentence in question came in the context of describing the universal ‘distress’ at Columbia ever since the election,” the website reported. HMMM...

It is embarrassing and I don’t mean to joke about suicide, it’s a serious thing.

But these profs must have forgotten to provide suicide safe ares for their snowflakes.

I know you didn’t. We get wrapped up in things sometimes and pass by something we might have handled differently.

The level of discourse needs to be ratcheted back down on our campuses.

They are clearly out of control. If students are actually killing themselves over Trump being elected, that is a very strong condemnation of the atmosphere the professors and faculty have created on those campuses.

Number one, end all student advisory groups. The faculty should set the rules and enforce them. Students are there to learn, not govern or dictate.

As for groups that contribute to violence, end them. Take away their sanctioned existence.

This PC nonsense always results in this sort of thing.

This is supposed to be an environment where you learn from the past and educate accordingly.

These universities have failed their mission.

Yes, isn’t that the truth...

Is that an old saying. There are many of them that are very pointed and exactly right.

Well it was heinous of their highnesses. They pumped those kids’ heads just full of the idea that if Donald Trump won, the world would no longer be worth living in.

There really isn’t a crime we know of to describe that, unless we want to talk things like “mental cruelty.”

I hope history looks back on these profs as the equivalent of the Kool-Aid ladlers at Jonestown.

Not comical. Demonstrates commitment. Only a matter of time until they take others with them. Get serious.
