Exclusive: Trump aides’ bid to plug leaks creates unease among some civil servants

President Donald Trump's Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin used his first senior staff meeting last month to tell his new aides he would not tolerate leaks to the news media, sources familiar with the matter said.

Current and former officials said that in a departure from past practice, access to a classified computer system at the White House has been tightened by political appointees to prevent professional staffers from seeing memos being prepared for the new president.

Washington career civil servants say the clampdown appears designed to try to limit the flow of information inside and outside government and deter officials from talking to the media about topics that could result in negative stories.

Some reports of government dysfunction have infuriated Trump just weeks into his presidency. Trump has described media outlets as "lying", "corrupt", "failing" and "the enemy of the American people."

Several officials in different agencies who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said some employees fear their phone calls and emails may be monitored and that they are reluctant to speak their minds during internal discussions.

In addition, the sources say that limits imposed on the flow of information have blindsided cabinet-level officials on some major issues and led to uncertainty among foreign governments about U.S. policy.

Long overdue. And they need to make some very public “exemplary firings” of those caught.

Apparently our “civil servants” claim the right to leak whatever they like of their work information to anyone they want.

Only when a Republican is in the White House, of course.

Just announce layoffs that take out the last 8 years of employees at each agency.

Well, it is short of summary executions, but it is a start. Poor little snowflakes. Anyone using official phones and computer systems is subject to monitoring. That applies to the private sector, as well.

If they’re not guilty it shouldn’t worry them.the few that are leaking this to the media probably should worry.

Fire them and they wont be able to afford to live in the Emerald City. The best thing is for Trump to cut 25% off the top. They don’t do anything of value any way. Most of the “work” they do is to please each other which then they give awards to each other and give other raises making hundreds of thousands of $ while the rest of America suffers. I’ve worked there and I know plenty who do. Its a place filled to the gills with leftists. They have more transexuals, deviants, and foreign born working for the federal government that its hard to tell some of these agencies are American or what bathroom some of them should use. I remember distinctly working for customs when one the managers commented on how bombing Texas would be preferable to bombing Iraq. I fixed that problem and reported his ass. Now that we have power of all branches of government we need to take a page from the playbook of the left and clean house and get rid of the antiAmerican marxist scum while we can. Do leave them to run things behind the scenes as usually happens.

But also ineffective.

They can simply do their leaking off premises.

The federal government employs many who are otherwise unemployable.
