This week's U.S. Drought Monitor report shows more improvement in California, where winter rainstorms and heavy snowfall have washed away drought in more of the state after a five-year dry spell.
Just three months ago, more than 73 percent of California was in drought, but that number has dropped to 9 percent after this winter's powerful storms, according to the weekly Drought Monitor report released Thursday.

the beautiful thing here is both occurrences fit the narrative....the drought and drought relief can be blamed on climate change.

I see from the map on the right that Death Valley is still in a drought and has been for the last 10,000 years.
That is why it is called the weather. It’s not called atmospheric statistical snapshot.
Is there any meter for drought? Where I used to live in Delaware it was based on the levels of the groundwater, so you could still be in a drought after a flood or a hurricane.
Using International Monetary Fund numbers, California has surpassed France and Brazil to become the world’s 6th largest economy at $2.47 Trillion in GDP.
The top ten: USA ($18 Trillion) China (11 Trillion), Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, California, France, Brazil, India, and Italy.
Agriculture in the conservative central valley region of the state accounts for a huge portion of that GDP.
Record snow pack in the Sierras. Anyone in the Kali government who pretends surprise when the spring melt comes probably shouldn’t be there.
There’s enough water. It’s just that humans are too stupid to save it when there’s a lot, for use when there isn’t.
In California, drought has different meanings to different people, depending on how a water deficiency affects them. Droughts have been classified into different types such as:
meteorological drought - lack of precipitation
agricultural drought - lack of soil moisture, or
hydrologic drought -reduced streamflow or groundwater levels
What impacts drought conditions in the state are surface water, snowpack in the mountains and groundwater levels. Currently the snowpack is at 186% of normal and surface water (reservoirs) are in excellent shape. Groundwater aquifers recover much more slowly than surface water and are limited, among other things, by how much and how fast water can recharge. Unlike surface water, which can recover during a few days of heavy precipitation, groundwater aquifer recovery often takes years or decades. Groundwater systems are also relied upon more heavily during times of drought.
All that wonderful snowpack will soon be sailing out into the ocean because a drought filled state can’t take care of any sort of water saving system that could keep us in plenty of water for years.

Historically, California gets 1 year of flood every 5 years; or 4 dry years out of every 5 years. So a 4-year dry spell is normal and has to be planned for. For a dry spell to be a drought it has to last longer than 4 years. California last had a real drought in the 1980’s; the lower Colorado River has been in drought for about 10 years.
The earth can’t fix stupid, and that’s what kommiefornia is. Give those fools a few years with dumping water into the ocean (to save the Pacific Coast alligator scum) and they’ll be back to crisis mode in no time.

Yuh think! Death Valley was underwater before global warming, doncha know? This story doesn’t seem to mention that huge aquifers are refilled in arid counties such as Orange. Afterall, how did Knotts Berry Farm manage to irrigate its berries and fruit trees during drought years?
