HOUSTON — Immigration officials began deportation proceedings this week against a Houston-area father of two who says he had lived for years in the U.S. under a protected status given to some immigrants.

Jose Escobar, a 31-year-old construction worker, was arrested Wednesday when he went to federal offices in Houston to provide immigration officials with an annual update on his work status.

His wife, Rose Marie Ascencio-Escobar, said although her husband is not a citizen, he was in good standing with immigration authorities as long as he appeared for an annual review. But U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement counters that Escobar had been ordered years earlier to leave the country after getting his affairs in order.

Ascencio-Escobar said immigration agents told them the agents were complying with new rules enacted by President Donald Trump.

These sob stories are just getting more convoluted and ridiculous. Bleats of “he’s done nothing wrong - he was in ‘good standing’ blah, blah, blah” abound.

His mom failed to renew his papers when she brought him here at 15. He was later ordered to leave the country some time later and then became an “immigration fugitive.”

Caught (again) he was given time to put his affairs in order and continued about his merry way, but doing nothing but leeching off this country. So, finally brought to account he is being deported - for being an illegal and for committing more than just entering into this country illegally.

[...Escobar had been ordered years earlier to leave the country after getting his affairs in order.]

Yet the immigration officials blame his deportation on NEW rules that President Trump dreamed up?

Catch 22 for these criminals: They can report on schedule and be deported because they are illegal, or they can fail to report in and ICE will go get them for failing to report. Usually government rules of that kind are used against decent people; it’s nice to see criminals in the same bind for once.

He's not a "Texas Man".
He's an El Salvador man.

He's not innocent.
He is a scofflaw who has ignored a court order for more than 10 years.

No deje que la puerta le golpee en el culo en su salida.

You are not here in “good standing” if you are here illegally, regardless of what Obama said or did. See ya.

Would be interesting to know if this family also receives any form of government assistance or if he pays taxes on his construction income. But then the media will never tell that part!

ICE screwed the pooch on this one for the last 8 years by making Escobar’s yearly check-in an acceptable workaround. Obama is entirely to blame. Obama ought to get the blame. And Escobar is caught in the middle of a SNAFU.

There is going to be a lot of these cases.

For one thing, on a laborer’s wages, plus dependents, he’d most certainly be getting EITC in the range of several thousands of dollars. Add to that a very-likely SNAP use, possibly his ‘wife’ getting Section 8 vouchers and the like and you have all the signs, IMO.
