Connecticut governor to cops: Don't follow Trump immigration orders
The Hill ^ | 2/22/17 | Reid Wilson

Connecticut’s Democratic governor is telling state and local law enforcement they do not have to comply with federal requests to detain residents who are in the country illegally, a day after the Trump administration detailed plans that could lead to millions of deportations.

In a memo to state law enforcement and school district officials Wednesday, Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) said Connecticut officials should not detain anyone solely on the basis of their immigration status. Federal immigration detainer requests do not constitute orders or warrants, Malloy’s memo says.

Law enforcement officials should not give federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers access to individuals in state or local jails, Malloy’s office added.

“Putting all opinions about this presidential executive order aside, its enforcement is going to have a local impact, especially given the constrained resources and financial impacts this will have on state and municipal budgets, which we already know are stretched to their limits, in addition to giving rise to serious concerns in affected communities,” Malloy said in a statement. Connecticut is one of a handful of states that call themselves sanctuaries for undocumented immigrants. A state law passed in 2013 requires law enforcement agencies to detain an individual for breaking immigration laws if they have been convicted of a felony, are a known gang member, are on a federal terrorism watch list or face criminal charges and have not posted bond.

In a memo to state school districts, Malloy’s office urged education officials to develop a plan in the event that immigration agents show up at schools. Malloy said he expected the Trump administration to adhere to the same guidelines as the Obama administration, which put schools, courthouses and other “sensitive locations” off limits to immigration enforcement actions.

One provision of the new immigration guidelines, issued Tuesday, directs the Department of Homeland Security and immigration enforcement agencies to enlist local law enforcement agencies in efforts to enforce federal immigration law. There is no federal law requiring local agencies to adhere to those guidelines.

I love how elected officials put illegal vermin ahead of the needs of their own taxpaying citizens.

Bobby Kennedy threatened to throw George Wallace in jail back during segregation. The libs loved that. It’s time to give them a dose of their own medicine when they disobey the law.

Sounds to me like the U.S. Treasury needs to “boycott” Connecticut.

If a Governor orders people not to follow the nation’s laws, the justice department should walk in arrest him, and prosecute him.

Immigration policy is a settled issue. It’s the purview of the Federal government.

Ordering actions that are unlawful, are unlawful when you are a sitting governor.

Trump needs to cut all federal funding to this state until they comply .

So, if the emperor can pick and choose what laws he will obey, does that mean I can own and buy an AK or a high cap magazine?

Goody.

Governor Malloy is just trying to get noticed.
As we know the Democrat Party is hurting badly and even our Governor is trying to get a place in the Party to run for President.

I don’t know who the heck these guys think they are, but they aren’t above the laws of our nation.

I’m not a big pistol whip kind of guy, but I wouldn’t treat him too gently if he resists.

If they go after him, his goose is cooked.

“If a Governor orders people not to follow the nation’s laws, the justice department should walk in arrest him, and prosecute him.”

Absolutely. To hell with threatening to withhold funds, government officials do not get to choose what laws they want to obey or enforce.

Not since 1/21/17 that is.

For any state claiming it is a drain on their funds Trump can offer the military to do it for them. Let’s see how draining it is when federal funds go bye bye!

I would cut all law enforcement ties with CT, no FBI, no federal marshals, nada, nada. In the case of bank robberies of kidnappings, I would have the FBI go in and say, yes there was a robbery or kidnapping and then leave. Absolutely no civil rights infractions. Cut off all the federal id and lab information they rely on. Let the Ct's handle ALL crime!!! They are already complaining they do not have enough resources to investigate crimes now. To Hell with them.

I think with this version of L&O, take over the airport for the duration of Mr. Malloy's administration, and, cut off all visas to organizations in CT. If the state can't be trusted to enforce laws, why let people in that might overstay their welcome?

And non-renewal of green cards as well. Let them whine at Yale, UConn, the medical facilities hiring TWAs, etc., will reap what they sow.

Does CT have a port? Another avenue of leverage.
