They should have NEVER disclosed this method.

It is well known, but...it’s stupid to confirm they actually used it.

They’ll have to use it again and the future leaker will consider changing details, verbiage, to avoid being un-masked.

Stupid.

I don’t think they (the WH) disclosed this method.. It was also leaked.

Disclosing the method gives the leaker/leakers something to think about. The next time they see a memo, odds are good they will have significant reservations about running to their favorite reporter with it.

The should NEVER have disclosed this information

Why not? Now the Seditionists won't be believed when they leak classified information. Knowing this technique exists will cause panic and confusion in and out of government. Media will be afraid of getting caught publicizing information designed to catch leakers.

What would be real sweet now is some trials for Sedition. This is terrible to say, but I hope McCain is involved.....10 years in prison would be a fitting end to his US Senate career (a gal can dream)

“They should have NEVER disclosed this method.”

I disagree. If the leaker is caught by this then it would be known how did it anyway. There more ways to catch the snakes which is good because they won’t get them all with this one.

Nope!

Use the method to DETECT the leaker, then change the nature of his job and isolate him a bit, giving him a couple insurmountable tasks.

Later, fire him, putatively FOR those failures.

Then use the same technique again, even many times, on future leakers, getting rid of them with the same protocol.

This is NOT just one battle, it is the beginning of a LONG war, as the enemy has VERY MANY troops.

There are many future leakers, people are thinking checkers when they should be thinking CHESS.

Multiple sources within the WH have told me that the “memo” on the 100K National Guard soldiers was fake news designed to smoke out leaker.

— Mike Cernovich 🇺🇸 (@Cernovich) February 17, 2017

Cernovich could be part of the fake news manufacturing complex, or the "multiple sources" who told him this are part of the leaking organization.

IF (big if) it's true, the anonymous sources are not Trump loyalists, but part of the group that needs to be fired.

Ah hah, the leak that disclosed the method of leak-tracking is the leak that they are tracking - not the original National Guard leak. Ooops, I think I just leaked it.

Doesn’t look like anyone from the WH made an official statement on smoking out leakers to me...for all we know, the “sources” are posts made right here earlier today.

It will make leakers afraid to open their mouths.

They’ll have to use it again and the future leaker will consider changing details, verbiage, to avoid being un-masked.

Or they'll be too scared to leak it in the first place b/c they won't know whether it's real or just a CI ploy.

Changing the details does not obscure the leaker in any way, when the entire premise was false. That is why this same method has worked for thousands of years.

They should have NEVER disclosed this method.

How do you know they did? In fact, how do you know any of this is true? Who is Mike Cernovich, and how likely is it that "multiple sources within the WH" would tell him anything?

Actually, the history of psyops in warfare states that is has the opposite effect: the enemy is thrown off balance and does not know what to believe.

During the lead up to D-Day, American and British Intelligence conducted a massive disinformation campaign.

They "leaked" lies about an huge allied invasion force that was supposed to launched from Scotland into Norway. They manufactured evidence that the main invasion force was to be in the Pas-de-Calais, and that the Normandy force was a ruse and a diversion. Throughout, double agents and coded messaged mixed lies with some bit of truth.

The Germans were thrown into chaos, because they found out they could not trust any of their "sources" after D-Day.

Leakers just can’t help leaking. Their mistake was they leaked it to the press.

This method of outing spis is not secret nor can it have any but a positive effect when used.

Depite what some here think, there is no way changing words around can protect leaker since under this method only ONE person has info on the particular subject being used in the sting. As soon as a story appears in the media on the subject they are toast.

I do believe this was in a Tom Clancy book. I think it was named as a pigeon trap. It was Jack Ryan and I think the book was Patriot Games. I could be wrong.
