To those who lived through that era that tore us apart in the 60s and 70s, it is starting to look like deja vu all over again.
And as Adlai Stevenson, Bobby Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey did then, Democrats today like Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are pandering to the hell-raisers, hoping to ride their energy to victory.
Democrats would do well to recall what happened the last time they rode the tiger of social revolution.
As the riots began in Harlem in 1964 and Watts in 1965, liberals rushed to render moral sanction and to identify with the rioters.

Still, the intolerant left seems to have melded more broadly and tightly with the Democratic Party of today than half a century ago.
The upside to this is that the harder the radical Left pushes with its agenda, the stronger the backlash is going to be. We've seen some of this already with the election of Trump and the likely triumph of the populist Right in Europe. If the Left escalates higher with their disruption and violence, we can escalate higher in response as well.
It only works once. We know they are the reason we lost in Vietnam. Well, them and the MSM. They won’t get away with it again, partly because we have social media and the Internet. They can’t control the message.
And people once trusted the mainstream media. Not anymore.
The TET offensive was a major disaster for the Viet Cong and a major victory for our forces. It was their last hurrah and it failed.
Yet our press used it to prove we were losing.
Sessions is gonna need a bigger broom to sweep the garbage off the streets....
Mr. CRONKITE: (Reading) Tonight, back in more familiar surroundings in New York, we’d like to sum up our findings in Vietnam, an analysis that must be speculative, personal, subjective. Who won and who lost in the great Tet Offensive against the cities? I’m not sure. The Vietcong did not win by a knockout but neither did we.
(Me ... writing): what a useful idiot douchebag!
I don’t know...they got Clinton and Obama for 16 years of liberalism. Granted Clinton was a moderate compared to the radical street organizer.
And Bush.
Walter Cronkite specifically.
By his reasoning we didn’t win the Battle of the Bulge.
Ya I remember. The media reported the Tet offensive as a major defeat for the US and South Vietnam. When in fact it was a victory.
And it was right around that time that Walter Cronkite came out against the Vietnam war.
I always hate how the media seemed to celebrate the fall of Saigon, as if to tell us, that they were right all along about Vietnam and all that.
The same media ignored the devastaion caused by the communists taking over, and ignored the killing fields in Cambodia.
Nkmk
Walter Cronkite specifically.
Looking back in hindsight, he should have been shot for treason. But then, Jane Fonda is still alive, so I guess we don’t do that any more.
But don’t play with Trump, ‘cause you’re play’n with fire.
It’s more than just media, it’s reality. The Middle Class, or the working class, mostly just wants good employment prospects in the United States. That’s reality, and if you are some member of the middle class like me, no amount of hysteria on twitter or TV can really change what the reality is to you. Trump targeted the Middle Class for his appeal for a reason.
Yes, And this time their point is not being bolstered by many families seeing a family member come home in a box.
They are working on it.
They have cooperation from the major search engines, and control of all major news sources.
China has pretty good control of their internet and are experimenting with social media that punishes dissent and rewards conformity; that may be the path they will follow.
After he retired he admitted he favored one world government—so your characterization of Cronkite as a traitor is 100% accurate.
The Left was able to get some traction by becoming the self-declared voice for all Americans who were skeptical of or had grown tired of the Vietnam War. Many if not most of the people who wanted out were not radical or even liberals by today's standards.
The problem is, the Left's strategy has always been to graft its entire agenda on as riders as soon as any one issue gets any political traction. Their "logic" was that if you didn't want your son to come home in a body bag from Vietnam, you had to embrace the rest of their agenda as well - Black Panthers, Malcolm X, Mao and Che Guevera shirts and posters, the Sexual Revolution, etc.
