Freepers, I need some help and prayers. The future daughter-in-law of a close friend was in a bad car accident late last week. By the grace and mercy of God she was not as seriously injured as orignally thought. However, the treatment she has received from the hospital she was taken to has been deplorable at best. She was air lifted to McLeod's Hospital in Florence, SC on Thursday February 9. She was admitted to the hospital that afternoon, and was left in the cervical collar the EMTs put on her until Saturday (it had dried and caked bodily fluids on it). The hospital knew this girl needed surgery Thursday afternoon yet did not call a surgeon until Sunday. She has been given food that had bugs in it. The list goes on and on. Last night she was threatened by the doctor who operated on her because she overheard a conversation while sedated for surgery on her arm. She repeated what she heard about strippers and drug use to a nurse.

The family has filed a complaint with the Licensing Review Board for doctors in SC. I advised them to call members of the Board of Directors, however I cannot find a list of names. Can any of you help me with this?? How do we find the board members so we can talk to them?? McLeod's hospital in Florence had an excellent reputation at one time, however I am hearing horror stories from people who have been there recently.THANKS Freepers!!

Sadly, I’ve seen the horrors of deplorable health care. She has my prayers.

That is terrible! This should be reported to medical board and state agencies.

That being said, I just said a prayer for this young lady, for her complete healing and restoration as well as for her medical treatment situation to given over to better doctors.

I can’t help with the board members, but I have prayed for you, the young woman, her family and all concerned. What a terrible experience! Blessings upon you all.

Prayers up. You may consider contacting your Reprentative or other local officials. Undoubtedly that hospital receives tax dollars in one form or another so they should be interested in helping.

I am a physician and former Chief Medical Officer of a major institution. Forget about the board of directors. File a complaint against the doctors with the state board of medicine. For the hospital contact the agency for Health care accreditation in your state. Also file a direct complaint with the Joint Commission. This complaint will be the most important as it will be investigated from a level of participation with the Medicare services.

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On Earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

Amen

The entire world of human affairs is like that - we’re going along and everything is jake, then, suddenly, it rains cr*p and we’re neck deep.

No one escapes or avoids it.

You are not alone.

The delay in surgery may be warranted. Many other tests could be monitoring changes in her vitals and watching for other injuries. Moving the brace could be dangerous if there was damage . Under sedation she could have halicintated. Although I recently had procedure on my heart and Drs and nurses were discussing sports etc. I was a bit unnerved but I assume this work is what they did routinely and such talk help deal with stress.

It seems like McLeod may get their accreditation through a company called DNV GL Healthcare.

You might be able to get some action by going through them as they might have the power to pull their accreditation.

She wasn't hallucinating unfortunately. The nurse she shared it with was also in the OR and corroborated everything she said.

Prayers up.

Nothing has changed since the 1990s. I was in an accident and I didn't get my hair shampooed for six weeks. When it was the water turned bright red with dried blood.

Possibly call the local or state health department for inspections, if the food is bad.

There awaits anther Battle to fight. From the accident that she had and quasi Medical Treatment she received, The Medical Stooges, haven't admitted yet that she will forever Suffer with tbi (traumatic brain injury) until the entire Neuro-Physicians get off their backside and find out how to help a survivors. An unspoken type of injury that they have known about since 1843.) (I'm a Handicapped tbi Survivor.) Suffering for the last 5 years.) I pray that her tbi suffering is shorter than mine.

tbi, the unSpoken injury, unSeen wound with no medicine. Only Witch Doctor Treatment.

Major dittoes to this. It’s important even in a good hospital to have someone to advocate for patients & keep an eye on what is going on. Being there early when the doctors make their rounds is especially important, from my personal experience - they notice when family makes the effort to be there & talk to them, even if it’s 6 a.m. in the morning.
