It seems clear that Trump and Putin are committed to assisting this.
Today I saw signs that Turkey is ready to listen to good advice.
Kurds and Arabs in the SDF are 5km from Raqqa. The approach was clearly smooth. The actual move to take Raqqa does not appear to have happened yet. But residents are fleeing and moving to shelter away from the city. The Dam is still in the hands of ISIS, although SDF troops are far past that toward the city.
Lets all pray this brings the civil war in Syria to an end. And ISIS gone.
With President Trump at the helm, I can support this because it would be done right with the right intentions.
But the NeoCon nutjobs (and you know who you are) better not get any ideas.
Air support for troops fighting ISIS is great.
No men.
There will be more fighting even after ISIS is defeated among Kurds and Turkey and God knows who else.
No boots. Not one.
” ..... Assad’s government has labelled all armed opposition to his rule including the U.S.-backed rebels as “terrorists.”
—
That’s pretty much what most of these rebels are. They’re terrorists.
Could the world finally be united now that the terrorist enabling, and funding, scumbag Obama is gone?
Seems so
How many Syrian civilians have died because of Obama and Hillary’s meddling? They are all war criminals.
Since Assad is and has been in bed with the Iranian regime- the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world - the whole notion that he wants to fight terrorism is laughably absurd.
The path to what passes as stability in the Middle East is to support and ensure Assad establishes law and order in Syria.
Isn't this literally what any government in 2017 would do, including First World ones? All governments would call those seeking to overthrow it through force "terrorists," no matter the reason why.
If "terrorist" was in common vernacular in the past, Lincoln would have called the Confederacy terrorists, and King George III the same with George Washington.
Can we just get out of Muslim countries and let the Muslims kill each other? Bring US troops home, put them on our borders, ban Islam in US, deport Muslims, and institute a “pet the pig” requirement to board a plane.
We have no Muslim allies. They are perfectly willing to use the US, but they will turn on us in an instant when they have the opportunity.
Can’t islam wipe its own ass?
Sounds like we will be on the right side this time! But, I agree with others here - no boots on the ground. And for goodness sakes, we keep our weapons to ourselves. No giving anyone weapons, not even a single pistol.
Just thinking - wonder what is going through McCain’s mind right now and so many other’s who had it ALL wrong by arming the rebels.
SDF is militant jihadi, freeing raqqa with them is like having the zetas save you from sinaloa.
We already have Operators on the ground in Syria fighting ISIS.
They are all, when it comes down to it, MUSLUMS FIRST AND FOREMOST....JEW HATERS SECOND....AND OUR ALLIES ONLY WHEN THEIR FELLOW MOSLUMS ARE ABOUT TO KILL THEM.
NUKE IRAN....however you have to make it come to pass, NUKE IRAN. ...THEN SYRIA. ..OF course by the time you vaporize a million or so Iranians, the rest of the moslum world will see its better to cooperate ......they will start overthowing these mullahs and ayatollahs in no time.
LETS REMEMBER TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE....ONCE THESE MOSLUM TERRORIST GET NUKES OR OHER WMDs....it will be too late.
Hell, suitcase Davy Crockett nukes are 50 year old technology, its just a matter of time.
>>”Lets all pray this brings the civil war in Syria to an end.<<
Hope so too, and it’s very likely.
>>” And ISIS gone.”<<
ISIS may leave Syria, but ending it entirely is more challenging.
It’s worth repeating that ISIS is NOT organic to the ME, or that region. It never has been. Many ISIS fighters are not even Arabs, but an eclectic mix of people from various countries.
Their ideology is mostly Salafist (a purist form of Islam) combined with Wahhabism (similar to Al Qaeda and its offshoots). They are ALL Sunni muslims and are alt-extremists.
Their ideology is drawn from Sunni (purist) Islam & Saudi Wahhabism. Thus, their ‘spiritual’ leader is Not and cannot be a Shi’ite Ayatollah such as Khomenei in Iran.
In order to see the end of ISIS and AQ, the US & the West must ensure Saudis and Emiratis (Qatar specifically) stop ALL support to ISIS & AQ. Same goes for Turkey. The ‘support’ which must end includes:
- Funding
- Arming
- Ideological (education) indoctrination (in ME, the West, & around the world in fact)
- Radicalization camps and training
On occasions and out of necessity, the Iranian regime is known to make deals with AQ, but it’s rare and there is no tangible alliance. Russia very recently also specifically said that Iran has never cooperated with ISIS or Al Nusra (an offshoot of AQ).
Iranian regime’s support is localized to, e.g. Hezbollah (in Lebanon) and to a lesser extent Hamas and PLO. The comparison another poster here made to “IRA” and “Basque Separatists” is a fairly good one.
1) I bet you are. Let the US spend our money and lives on a problem so you won’t have to. Thanks for the support, Assad.
2) What does Putin have to say about this? Could we actually have Russian and Syrian LNOs in our TOCs? How weird would that be?
Putin and Donald have been talking, and the former has yanked Assad’s leash.
if we were to do such a thing, I’d have some demands for Assad.
1. If we ever find Syria’s fingerprints on any act of terror against the US (even by proxy), you had better hide in a really really deep bunker - because we’re coming for you.
2. You can yell and scream about Israel all you want. We’re fine with that. But if your allies start launching missiles into Israel, we’re gonna green-light the Israelis to open a huge can of whoop-a** on you.
