DELINGPOLE: Why Renewables Are Doomed and Fossil Fuels Are the Future
breitbart.com ^ | 2/8/2017 | James Delingpole

Posted on 02/09/2017 7:44:32 AM PST by rktman

We’re on the verge of a new energy revolution. Except it’s the exact opposite of the one the “experts” at places like BP, the International Energy Agency and – ahem – the Guardian are predicting.

For years we’ve been assured by politicians, energy industry specialists and green advocates that renewables such as wind and solar are getting more and more cost-competitive while dirty fossil fuels are so discredited and wrong and evil we’ll soon have to leave them in the ground.

But to believe this you’d have to believe in a world where Donald Trump and Brexit hadn’t happened; where taxpayers were still prepared to bankroll, ad infinitum, the expensive, inefficient, environmentally-damaging produce of favoured crony-capitalists; where no one had access on the internet to articles showing how the whole climate change industry is such a scam.

That world doesn’t exist.

OMG!!! OMG!!! We're all gonna die. Maybe from shards of bone from ecowanker heads 'splodin' after reading something like this. I did hear yesterday that jimmy boy carter had a suggestion for Donald J Trump, President of the USA, that he should invest heavily in renewable expansion to create gazillions of jobs. Uh, Mr. President, please ignore mr. peanut. See next comment about how much the sjw's hate this idea. I mean advancing fossil(?) fuel production.

Super bowl ad letting people know just how much would be impossible without fossil(?) fuel and petro production.

Just in case you didn’t watch the super bowl.

Yes, Mr. Carter in his sweater telling us the world is going to end every week and to turn our thermostats down to 47 to save energy.

The original solar debacle cheerleader.

We just had eight years of billions of dollars of taxpayer money down a rat hole for renewable energy fiascos.

It is turning out “fossil fuel” is a misnomer. We are recovering oil from depths that never saw a dinosaur footprint or a big fern. This stuff is made in the mantle from raw materials that we can’t possibly exhaust.

The rats and the a##clown tarnished an underdeveloped but promising renewable energy source solar as a scam to siphon American tax payer money to donors “solyndra”, to the UN and enviro radicals for the global warming scam and other handouts including redistribution under less conspicuous names. We have been used for 8 years plus as the worlds welfare bank

Doom is too strong a word. There will be a place for wisely deployed “renewables.” In some cases they make sense or are desirable for personal reasons.

But there is no way a whole world could be powered off of them any time soon. That is why God gave us dead dinosaurs and the like.

And the mania proved itself to be a mania when it went into eagle chopping mode and the erstwhile greenies just sat there like the cat had gotten their tongue.

Interesting, especially as a former geology major many moons ago. Do you have a source for that?

Exactly why I put (?) behind ‘fossil’. Ya know, just how many friggin’ dinosaurs and how much flora and fauna do these people think there was/were anyway? I’ve seen several articles about “abiotic” petroleum in the past few years. I’m kinda leaning that direction. Which reminds me, I gotta go fill up Mrs. rktmans car this morning. And no, I am NOT saying she is a dinosaur. ;-)

My one beef with President Trump so far is that he is not supportive enough of nuclear. We have far better designs waiting to be implemented and we won’t run out of nuclear fuel.

I’ve seen that asserted a lot... I really don’t know, though underground formation of hydrocarbons would be happy, happy news. However, in a way it still depends on renewables. Why? Because these still need oxygen to burn, and our Sun is giving that to us through photosynthesis worldwide.

About 250+ million years worth?

Well I’ve been in the solar business for 25 years and I continue to put in systems every day every week that completely Crush electric bills siding from a small residential system to giant megawatt systems and I can tell you the fact is the photovoltaic cell is still one of the greatest inventions mankind has ever come up with solar plants are not going to run the grid however they do you work they don’t need subsidies and there is no mechanism for them to break down or fail it’s quite incredible
Now of course the government has funded boondoggles and idiots like Solyndra which I called a fried from the gecko and Venetto solar people who got $100 million and produced marry a product so I’m not going to excuse them but I will say hands-down that the photovoltaic module is a revolution

The very best argument for conservation is simple: more, better and cheaper.

Right now both industry and consumers crave flexible thin sheet aerogel insulation. It is a stupendous insulator for heat or cold, a three millimeter sheet insulating as much as feet of fiberglass.

Use it to insulate freezers and refrigerators, as well as ovens, and the amount of energy they consume for the same temperature, plummets. Use it to insulate your home and in a broiling hot summer, your home can be cold; and during a freezing winter, your home can be t-shirt and shorts with bare feet. Again, at a fraction of the cost of doing so right now.

But flexible, thin sheet aerogel must go into very large scale production first. Make that happen and you save America a hundreds of billions of dollars.
