So two idiots sauntered into a police station jacked up with ammo and weapons to test the open-carry law in Dearborn, Michigan.
James Baker had body armor on and a semi-automatic pistol strapped to his hip as he slung a short-barreled rifle over his chest and pulled a black ski mask over his head. His buddy, Brandon Vreeland, a fellow open carry advocate, also had on body armor but left his gun in the car, instead bringing along cameras to videotape the encounter that was about to take place.
The two men wanted to file a complaint about being pulled over earlier by Dearborn police officers, but also saw it as an opportunity to test the suburban Detroit department to see if its officers honored the Constitution and their right to carry guns.
This is just plain stupid. And to really illustrate their stupidity, the duo refused to drop their weapons when police first instructed them to do so.

Sovereign citizens with a chip on their shoulder? I’ve seen similar stunts on youtube.

And, now also grads from the 3-minute graduate school, Hard Knocks College.
A few years back, someone challenged the ban on open carry ordinance for Denver (It’s legal everywhere in Colorado except Denver) and walked up the capital steps. He was arrested.
It’s a dumb ordinance.
Best quote from the tape:
“I will shoot you. I will put a round in you. What the hell is the matter with you?”
Absolutely moronic actions by two apparently brain dead individuals — who are lucky they aren’t completely dead
Playing devils advocate here.
Up until the point where they did not follow police instructions to put down their weapons, what laws did they break?
If open carry is legal, it is legal.
If an area is open to the public, then it is open to the public, including those that are open carrying. Unless there is a specific law that prohibits open carry, then it is legal in all public access places. And without a doubt, a police lobby is open to the public.
Lets suppose this slightly modified scenario:
Dressed exactly the same, and carrying exactly the same, the two walk into the lobby and sit down. Police instruct them to put their firearms down and they do so.
Then what crime could they have been charged with?
To me, this is far more a case of over reaction by both sides.

You don’t spit into the wind, tug on superman’s cape,,,, or go into a police station decked out like this.
I agree with you UNLESS part of the statute prohibits carrying (open or otherwise) in some places. That could be one of the places.
Poor so-called journalism.
If stupidity were a virtue these two would be saints.
Same reason Starbucks prohibits open carry: they used to allow it, but some similar jerks kept rubbing “i have a gun! Respect my rights!” in customers’ & staff’s faces.
I think it would depend upon whether the guns were fully holstered or not.
Do we know?
“Going armed to the terror of the public” is illegal everywhere, whatever the precise wording.
No, they were idiots. The ski mask was the cherry on the cake. They were trying to make people feel menaced. If they walked into a restaurant I was sitting in dressed that way, I would be thinking of shooting them.
And any sane person would.

Try that at your local mini-mart and you may well get shot.
They lost me with the ski-mask. That makes them look like robbers or terrorists, and would cause a reasonable person to be in fear of death or grave bodily harm.
