Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions’ nomination to be attorney general has cleared a procedural hurdle in the Senate.

The Senate voted 52-47 on Tuesday to move ahead on the nomination. Confirmation is expected on Wednesday in spite of Senate Democrats’ opposition to their colleague. No GOP senators voted against his confirmation. Sen. Sessions cast his vote as “present.” Sen. Jeff Sessions defends self, splits with Trump in confirmation hearing

Shortly before the procedural vote, Sessions cast a necessary vote for the confirmation of Betsy DeVos to be education secretary. She was confirmed with a 51-50 vote requiring Vice President Mike Pence to break the tie.

Democrats have questioned Sessions’ commitment to civil rights, his opposition to many immigration laws and whether he will be independent of Pr

Does this jeopardize any votes for OTHER confirmations (as suggested earlier here in FR) if he is approved so soon ?

I had already accepted that vote logic.

I don’t think so. He wouldn’t have been needed for DeVos either except the treachery of the two RINOs from Alaska and Maine.

I'll trust more politically astute folks than I on this one.

I'm more of a social commentator ... "Him? ... He's an asshole" ......

THAT kind of stuff.

Does this jeopardize any other votes

At this point, President Trump needs Senator Sessions on board as Attorney General. Sessions is a trusted friend who never steered him wrong during the campaign. He'll bring necessary legal skills to the administration.

Anything can happen if they wait. Besides that, what's to stop the Alabama governor from quickly appointing someone to fill Sessions seat?

They shot their wad on DeVos, those two traitors had 100% and 75% vote ratings from the NEA, the only two Repbulican Senators to rate above 50%. So they were really Rats, as we already know.

But I haven’t heard of any similar hold by the anti-Sessions bunch. And he was one of their own (Senator) and highly respected for years, so that may influence whatever fraction of Rat Senators have any sense of decency.

The votes against him are from those Senators
who are tied to Pizzagate. They fear the
investigation of child rape and treason.

“Democrats questioned....his opposition to many immigration laws...”

Wide open borders is now the law. Walk across and vote Democrat is now the law.
These people and their media shills are shameless.

“They shot their wad on DeVos, those two traitors had 100% and 75% vote ratings from the NEA, the only two Repbulican Senators to rate above 50%. So they were really Rats, as we already know.”

That vote allowing the two Pub women to vote NO, was pre-planned by the Pubs before the vote was ever taken. They do this all the time, knowing exactly how many YES votes they are going to get, and that Pence would cast the tie-breaking vote.

The Pubs “allowed” the two NO votes because of the liberal propensities of the states the women come from, and the alliances with their teacher constituents who could otherwise make life miserable for them at re-election time if they voted YES. So this was an agreed upon vote by the Pubs.

Both sides (Dems/Pubs) do head counts and then figure out how many of their members in shaky political states or districts with large constituencies backing specific issues, can vote in the negative, just as long as it won’t affect the outcome of the actual vote. That’s politics.

He wouldn’t have been needed for DeVos either except the treachery of the two RINOs from Alaska and Maine.

That traitorous woman will never get my vote again. I voted for Murkowski in 2004. It soon became apparent she was nothing more than a RINO. I voted for Joe Miller in 2010 and 2016. But Lisa Murkowski will never, ever get my vote again. Dan Sullivan, our other US Senator, has also lost my vote after he publically announced he would not support Donald Trump. We need to rid Alaska of these two RINOs.

I see your point regarding Collins in Maine, but Alaska? They’ve been a red state for years, maybe even decades. Is the teachers union so powerful there that Lisa M. had to be allowed to vote against DeVos?
