BEIJING The U.S. is putting regional stability in East Asia at risk, a Chinese spokesman said Saturday following remarks by President Donald Trump's defense secretary that a U.S. commitment to defend Japanese territory applies to an island group that China claims.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang on Saturday called on the U.S. to avoid discussion of the issue and reasserted China's claim of sovereignty over the tiny uninhabited islands, known in Japanese as the Senkaku and Chinese as Diaoyu.
The 1960 U.S.-Japan treaty is "a product of the Cold War, which should not impair China's territorial sovereignty and legitimate rights," Lu was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the ministry's website.

Word of advice to the chicoms:
It's never a good idea to 'lash out' at a Mad Dog.

Aggressors often say that those responding to their aggression are the ones causing trouble.
But guess what? If China stopped trying the enlarge a hegemony and control shipping lanes but stood up for freedom of the seas there would be no aggression and nothing to respond to.
There must be a ton of oil below the ocean around there.

I thunk it’s control of a major waterway and the ability to make military installations to control passage of western thinking countries.
True. But why do they want control? There are multiple reasons. I would put control of the natural gas reserves at the top of the list. The Chinese have a massive pollution problem due to their use of coal fired power plants. The pollution limits the growth of their economy.
A lot of news articles on the South China Sea, some alarming stuff out there. I’d post one article but I don’t think it’s proper. This one isn’t too bad: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/02/05/trump-should-sanction-china-for-destabilizing-south-korea.html
More of this kind of news: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/584828/US-China-War-South-China-Sea-World-War-3-Donald-Trump-Trade-Shipping-Reality-Tillerson I think this is sensationalism but something to keep an eye on. There are a lot of these kinds of articles.
