Too funny. Australia Herald Andrew Bolt outlines “the leaker” of the phone call between Australian Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull and U.S. President Trump came from down under – Turnbull leaked it. Malcolm Turnbull tried to play a game of dirty politics with terrible results.
Australia has their own version of the “Calais jungle” filled with economic migrants unwanted by the majority of the Australian people.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull won’t accept any asylum seekers, migrants or refugees who arrive by boat. Instead, [Australia] intercepts such vessels and sends them to remote Manus Island, in Papua New Guinea – link –
Prime-Minister Turnbull is stuck betwix a big rock and a political hard place. He can’t accept the economic migrants, and he’s too weak to repatriate them, so he thought he could turn to a fellow traveler in a lame-duck President Obama to bail him out.
On November 13th, 2016 Turnbull announced he entered an agreement with exiting Obama to take 1,250 of the pesky migrants despite the U.S. election a week earlier delivering an election victory by a U.S. presidential candidate who would be antithetical to such an agreement.
When questioned about the prudence of such a decision Malcolm Turnbull stated: “We deal with one administration at the time. There is only one president of the United States at a time.”
Dirty deed Mr. Turnbull. Bad, bad mojo.
That sets the backdrop for the now public phone call and President Trump’s admonishment therein… Having just had the atomic sledgehammer of Trump rightly delivered upon his grand scheme, Turnbull nervously turned his political objectives toward the media. Prime Minister Turnbull figuring he would be able to back-up his position by leaking the tone of the conversation to the media and subsequently undermine President Trump.
However, what Turnbull didn’t anticipate is a new type of U.S. President willing to call out the scheming of the traditional political class regardless of their location:
Oh snap, an American president actually looking out for the best interests of America? Rut roo, this is a new and unexpected dynamic. President Trump doesn’t fear transparency, he welcomes it.
Now Turnbull has put himself, and more consequentially the relationship between the leadership in Australia and the United States, into a position of adversity.
Prime Minister Turnbull, too weak to effectively repatriate the migrants on his own, has allowed his own weakness to embarrassingly damage a relationship with a key ally.
[…] Turnbull has a very nervous wait now to see if his boat people “solution” will survive. He’s also learned a very hard lesson: don’t try messing with Trump. (link)
I knew it! Turnbull and Obama came up with a last minute scheme to force thousands of the worst down Trump’s throat. But, of course, Pres. Trump deftly turned the tables on those two schemers and now they have egg on their face. Oh, man, it’s like I’ve died and gone to heaven.
I like Andrew Bolt and I think he’s normally right - but not in this case. I cannot see any reason Turnbull would have leaked this. It has destroyed a very carefully engineered positive news cycle that he sought to create about twelve hours earlier with a major speech at Australia’s National Press Club. It’s probably destroyed his prime ministership. I doubt he will be in office in three months.
There was no possibility of a positive outcome from leaking this from his perspective.
If the leak came from Australia - possible - I’d be looking at the many members of Turnbull’s own party who want to get rid of him. Because this has crippled him.
There may be another way to solve this problem dealing with the refugees on those islands. Do they still have cannibals in New Guinea?
There you have it; that's the source of his power.
Most politicians who have been destroyed in our generation fell victim to having some dark secret revealed about them. Trump doesn't fear it because he simply doesn't hide anything. Approach him with some embarrassing scandal or peccadillo and he answers: "Yeah, I did that; what else you got?"
Nice to have someone in the WH looking out for America!
We expect bitch moves like that from Obama.
It’s just another stupid EO Trump is fixing. Take care of your own problems Oz.
We’ve got enough of our own. FUBO.
Every day, I’m glad I voted for The Donald.
Heavensent, is almost the right phrase to use, even though I don’t think Trump is all that religious.
This is a landmine put in place by obumber and co-conspirator turmbull. It is a shitty thing to do on both parts and I will never look at Australia and Australians the same way again. I thought they were our friends.
I say back this tree up and throw some more shade
on Obama.
Land of the lost tribe: The Indian Ocean island that is home to a community who have lived there for 60,000 years... but is too dangerous to visit because they try to kill outsiders
The indigenous tribe has lived on North Sentinel Island in the Indian Ocean for an estimated 60,000 years
Their limited contact with the outside world usually involves violence, as they are hostile towards outsiders
Obama has been loading Islamic “refugees” in Red States. I think it’s only fair that Trump loads these people all around Obama’s house in DC, and his house in Hawaii.
Please - don’t judge all Australians by Turnbull, most of us can’t stand him. The sooner he’s replaced the better.
I believe the leak came from the US end (don’t forget Drudge was talking about leaks from several conversations not just the one with Turnbull) and it is something which needs to be plugged at once. How can you govern if you can’t control the output from your office? How can anyone trust you to keep something confidential?
The other question is, was it a leaker in the office or was it electronic eavesdropping - perhaps a little gift left by Obama.
No, I don’t blame you personally, and I would give any individual the benefit of a doubt. But the truth is that turnbull know exactly what he was doing when he conspired with obumber. He knew America just voted to stop this madness. He knew he was dealing with a deader then dead lame duck POS. Where’s the outrage of the Australian people? I take this as a big FU from the land down under.
The political “putsches” in Australian politics have been numerous in both major parties in the last decade.
How shallow are political leaders to be so obsessed with the latest public opinion polls they feel the need to depose their party leaders or prime ministers?
It’s always been common among the party in opposition. But now it’s become common in the government as well, and it’s a real problem.
The ease and proliferation of opinion polls and social media is something the Australian political parties have proven inept at managing. I hope they can get a better handle on it soon because it’s not just damaging, it’s embarrassing.
A little over a year ago i flew from Honolulu to Sydney, what got under my skin was at the terminal Jetstar was using it was run by Korean Air personell who to me were very rude and military versed, to the point i joked that maybe they were sending us to North Korea instead.
Though i liked Oz it just wasn’t my cup of tea, its a massive nanny state, everyone is happy but still its that fact.
I had dreams of living there but in the end i felt freedom was more important plus having a choice to fight for what you believe in. I sometimes thought maybe its the food, so much good food and it took the will to fight away.
They can come if they go to Gitmo, not my backyard.
Actually the deal was likely made quite a bit earlier - a deal like this doesn’t get negotiated in a few days and we know the negotiations started in February. Obama chose to delay the announcement until after the election. Blaming Australia for that seems a bit odd to me.
Australia did what all nations should do - negotiated a deal in its own best interests.
And Obama did what Obama always did -- screw the American people.
