Australia did what all nations should do - negotiated a deal in its own best interests.
Only a fool would not consider the longer term consequences in the negotiations. Australia just sent a big FU to America and Americans. At least that is my conclusion.

In most deals between Australia and the US, the US comes out ahead. If occasionally one goes the other way, that should not be a major issue.
Australia is a very good ally to the United States - and vice versa. That doesn’t mean everything is always bunnies and kittens.
