Yesterday in Taki's Magazine, David Cole suggested that maybe, just maybe, Hollywood isn't as powerful in swaying public opinion as many people assume it is.
This belief is shared not only by the "stars" of Hollywood itself who naturally fancy themselves as great "thought leaders" but also by conservatives themselves, including the late Andrew Breitbart. Breitbart, as Cole points out, was even rather obsessed with the issue, and harped on the need to create a right wing rival to Hollywood.
Cole, however, wonders if this all is really based on an accurate appraisal of the situation. After all, if Hollywood is so good at convincing people of its own point of view, why is it that Republicans keep winning so many elections? Cole notes:
But wait even with all that Hollywood interference, didnt we just win the last presidential election? Dont we have the House and Senate, too? Havent we also won an unprecedented number of statewide legislative seats and governorships?
This doesn't prove Hollywood has no effect on behavior and ideology, of course. But, it is entirely plausible that its power is not nearly as great as assumed.
Indeed, when it comes to discussing the effects of marketing, messaging, advertising, and propaganda, "assumed" is certainly a key word. There are a great many assumptions being made, but precious little evidence to back these assumptions up.
This appears to apply well beyond the field of mere Hollywood-created propaganda, as well. Both the legacy media and Hollywood gave full-throated endorsements to Hillary Clinton in 2016, and yet, the best Clinton managed was what can, at best, be called a tie with Donald Trump.
It seems the media's power may not be any more far-reaching than Hollywood's.

We have a very powerful enemy coming for him and us.
Make a stand!!
A truly lousy product is difficult to sell, no matter how talented the salesman may be.
The media failed because the harsh reality of peoples’ lives showed them to be wrong, over and over again, throughout Obama’s Presidency. Many of us already knew that they were extremely biased, but a number of people, especially in middle America where welfare isn’t used to buy votes, learned this over the last 8 years.
============================================
FOLLOW THE MONEY---Obama provided tons of money to fix the presidential election; a voter fraud campaign they hoped might alter the course of the elections not to mention the future of the United States.
Obama and Congressional Democrats----with a huge assist from then-AG Eric Holder----gaven NeighborWorks America (formerly ACORN) and La Raza a huge funding source of tax dollars (to achieve Obama's dream of a permanent Democrat majority?).
<><> Obama/Holder/Dems extorted banks via DOJ litigation/bank settlements----into paying off these nefarious organizations.
DOJ went after CitiCorp and ordered them to pay $50 million to La Raza and NeighborWorks America as part of the settlement.
Another clause in the agreement makes it possible for La Raza and NeighborWorks America to rake in even larger amounts of money.
Of the remaining money the banks needed to pay in settlements, the banks were able to contribute additional money to La Raza and NeighborWorks America. For every dollar they contribute, it reduces their debt to the government by 2 dollars. Thats some mighty powerful incentive to give generously.
==================================================
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling have questioned why this money was sent to the ACORN clone and the blood-thirsty LaRaza----rather than to the alleged victims of the banks crime. The administration of course declined to answer.
Here's part of the Congressmen's letter to Holder: It seems that the alleged victims are not the primary beneficiaries of these multi-billion dollar settlements. Instead, the terms in the Justice Departments two latest settlements look less like consumer relief and more like a scheme to funnel money to politically favored special interest groups.
This makes donations to activist groups far more attractive to banks than providing direct relief to injured consumers. As a result, the settlements appear to serve as a vehicle for funding activist groups rather than as a means of securing relief for consumers actually harmed.

AND THIS
Obama bullied bank to pay racial settlement without proof: report
NY Post ^ | 2/7/2016 | Paul Sperry / FR Posted by DCdude
Newly uncovered internal memos reveal the Obama administration knowingly exaggerated charges of racial discrimination in probes of Ally Bank and other defendants in the $900 billion car-lending business as part of a racial justice campaign that's looking more like a massive government extortion and shakedown operation.
Obama's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has reached more than $220 million in settlements with several auto lenders since the agency launched its anti- discrimination crusade against the industry in 2013. Several other banks are under active investigation. That's despite the fact that the CFPB had no actual complaints of racial discrimination--- it was all just based on half-baked statistics.
A 23-page internal report detailing CFPB's strategy for going after lenders shows why these companies are forking over millions of dollars in restitution and fines to the government despite denying any wrongdoing.
CFPB applied the screws to Ally, saying it had statistical evidence showing its participating dealers were marking up loan prices for blacks and Hispanics vs. whites (by an average of $3 a month).
Ally fought back, insisting non-discriminatory factors, such as credit history, down payments, trade-ins, promotions and rate- shopping, explained differences in loan pricing. After conducting a preliminary regression analysis, the bank found these factors alone accounted for at least 70 percent of the âracial disparitiesâ the government was claiming.
CFPB admits in the memo that it never considered these or other legitimate business aspects of the car deals it investigated.
Also in its initial rebuttal, Ally complained CFPB's entire case was based on disparate impact statistics, not actual complaints by consumers, and that those estimates relied on guesswork about the race of the borrowers. (The auto industry does not report borrower race, so CFPB tried to ID race by last name and ZIP code, so-called proxy method that is wildly inaccurate.)
Because she was unelectable.
Everything it was possible to do, they did.
Legal or not.
They failed because the sisyphean task was beyond human accomplishment.
My personal belief after being a lifelong TV and movie goer is that most Americans see (or saw) this Hollywood venue as an escape from day-to-day reality in a desire to check out of reality and provide some restorative therapy.
The problem is when producers, directors and largely, actors, started thinking their ability lie, mimic, and fantasize a character actually translated into some sort of important provenance and legitimacy about dealing with the real-live day-to-day political impacts in our world.
NOTHING they have done, do, or will do with respect to TV and film provides any measure of legitimacy in dealing with real-world problems. It is time these cupcakes started realizing this.
One wonders did the likes of the Rothschild family, Georgo Soros, Tomy Steyer and other multibillionaires giving large-sum "under the table" payments to big-name celebrities using numbered bank accounts around the world? Can you imagine the publicity firestorm if such a payment system was unveiled?
ITEM---Journalists Dined at Top Clinton Staffers Homes
Days Before Hillary's announcement of her candidacy
Wikileaks via Breitbart ^ | October 17 2016 | Ezra Dulis / FR Posted by grey_whiskers
ITEM..... Several top journalists and TV news anchors RSVPed yes to attend a private, off-the-record gathering at the New York home of Joel Benenson, the chief campaign strategist for Hillary Clinton, two days before she announced her candidacy in 2015, according to emails Wikileaks published from John Podestas accounts.
ITEM---The guest list for an earlier event at the home of John Podesta was limited to reporters who were expected to cover Clinton on the campaign trail. --snip--
==============================================
ITEM---Wikileaks revealed earlier that late night talk host Stephen Colbert, and his team at Comedy Central, were making TV episodes at the request or order of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) back in April of 2013.
So, viewers thought they were vote-smart because theyre informed by a comedian, yet same said comedian was doing Hillarys bidding the whole time.
ITEM----I hope talk hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Bill Maher, Seth Myers, Trevor Noah and Conan OBrien have their lawyers on retainer and speed dial.
ITEM....because if the Trump Administration uncovers that the DNC and the Clintons were directly working with any member of media and their writing staff during the 2016 Presidential election, they could be charged with violating Federal election laws.
They failed because We the People backed a fighter and he fought!
Cognitive dissonance on the part of the voter. Media mismatch.
Three reasons:
1. Hillary was a bad candidate.
2. People did not want a third Obama turn.
3. The rise of the new media gave people an alternate view.
Read our “ How Trump Won” available now on ebook, 2/27 in paperback.
Hillary was a bad candidate who believed her own propaganda via the media.

They really don’t have anything to sell other than “us against them.”
Payment probably comes in more subtle ways.
If you want to produce an expensive movie, you need financial connections to raise that money.
The big money guys you mentioned tell the producers, who they would like to see direct the movie and what movie stars to play the roles.
Soon the word is out that conservative actors and directors are wasting their time with these producers.
So, to stay employed, the big name actors know who to support in elections.
Its hard to believe we would be led by folks who make believe their whole lives...
These Are The Two Companies That Might Land Clintons Foundation In Big Legal Trouble
the problem with Hollywood selling anything today is perception. how much respect does the public have for some one like Madonna or Cher when you have theses two women who in the past have presented themselves and there bodies like whores to the public being the ones to criticize Trump about his treatment of women. How effective is some one like Bette Midler when she talks about being part of a disrespected class but mad millions and been fawned over by the public.
how respected is George Takie who played SULU on star trek when he has spent all his political capital being partisan in his criticism of the public on issues of sexual orientation.
all of these actors and musicians seem to think that respect for there craft means respect for there opinion on things. truth is that most people realize that there opinion is just that an opinion and usually not an educated opinion on what they are trying to sell the public on.
