Iran says to ban U.S. visitors in retaliation to Trump move

Iran said on Saturday it would stop U.S. citizens entering the country in retaliation to Washington's visa ban against Tehran and six other majority-Muslim countries announced by new U.S. President Donald Trump.

"While respecting the American people and distinguishing between them and the hostile policies of the U.S. government, Iran will implement the principle of reciprocity until the offensive U.S. limitations against Iranian nationals are lifted," a Foreign Ministry statement said.

"The restrictions against travel by Muslims to America... are an open affront against the Muslim world and the Iranian nation in particular and will be known as a great gift to extremists," said the statement, carried by state media.

The U.S. ban will make it virtually impossible for relatives and friends of an estimated one million Iranian-Americans to visit the United States

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said it was no time to build walls between nations and criticised steps towards cancelling world trade agreements, without naming Trump.

Trump on Wednesday ordered the construction of a U.S.-Mexican border wall, a major promise during his election campaign, as part of a package of measures to curb illegal immigration.

Wow, if we could just end all interchange with the “7 countries” and then add some more.... Saudi Arabia for sure!

Talk about win/win.....

Indeed. It’s tough for me to get worked up about “backpackers” and “hikers” who decide that an hour’s walk from the Iran border is the very best place in the world to take a vacation, and are soon grabbed, rightly or wrongly, by the border patrol.

Tehran is where the Dixie Chicks’ inlaws hail. Maybe they should get in one last visit.

I see that you have to apply through the Pakistan Embassy.

I’m looking forward to visiting so I can be kidnapped and held hostage. My family borrowing money for my ransom under threat from the state department.

All the while I’m tortured, skinned alive and eventually beheaded.

And I have to buy the plane fare?

Sounds reasonable..

I had a person ask me to go this spring to Iran to present some educational seminars related to Ag.

I’d rather get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed (still have them) and have a prostate biopsy in one day.

I didn’t return his email.

But what about all the home-grown jihadis who want to attend training camps in Iran? Iran would be unjust to deny them entrance visas.

"Boeing is deeply saddened"

Yup. Interesting to watch the outcome. Am sure Airbus is delighted. However . . . I support the President in this matter knowing many sacrifices must be made in the name of Freedom. I believe Boeing in part, was the reason of Obama agreement with Iran regarding their nuclear program. Money, money money, Just follow the money.

Trump should make the ban PERMANENT until they show proper respect and then consider ... extending it. (you can’t extend permanent but ... what the heck)

pending further developments (that means soon or never)
